After experiencing our individual versions of heartbreak, we somehow stumbled upon each other on a nice little app called Bumble. While it isn't the most unique or exciting story, it is something we believe was a chance encounter. John was a first time user of the app and Brianne had her fair share of rotating through the same guys and not seeing anyone new. Until she met John. The guy who had maybe one good picture without sunglasses on or in a group of other guys. She swiped right, they matched, and so began the starting conversation of, "you seem like you’re into a lot of different things, are you a try everything once kinda guy"? After an hour long facetime while she was with her family in Seattle and a brewery date that led to a first kiss in the parking lot, they began their love story.
If ever a man could make Brianne feel the most special, it's John. In the beginning of 2021 we felt it was finally time to plan a real vacation, on a plane, in a different state. Hawaii was both of our first choice. To get to Hawaii in the first place was proving itself to be a little difficult and stressful due to new covid requirements at the airport, however, we made it through and so our vacation began. We planned out our trip fairly loosely but knew that our first full day on Oahu would be spent at the North Shore and end with a nice dinner at Merriman's back in Waikiki. We heavily relaxed on the beach, ate some delicious fish tacos and garlic shrimp, and made a visit to the ever famous Matsumoto Shave Ice. At some point during the day, John had the idea to visit a spot that his friend Josh (who used to live in Hawaii) told him about and was an absolute MUST SEE. I figured we'd make our way over there fresh from the beach. John's idea was to drive back an hour to the hotel, get dressed for our nice dinner, go to the spot (back toward the North Shore), and then make our reservation back in Waikiki. This made NO sense to Brianne and came with a couple complains from her. But, she went along with it. We drove an hour back to this amazing spot at the very north west tip of the island with a view of the mountains on one side and the vast ocean on the other. We walked a very rocky path to a spot next to a giant rock and there is where John got down on one knee and proposed. And out from behind a rock was Anela, the wonderful photographer John hired to capture the moment and photograph us for an impromptu engagement shoot. It was perfect. He knows how special the islands are to Brianne and her family. This was the start to an amazing life together and a vacation to remember.
