The next step in your adventure to Elba Island is the same, regardless of where you arrive. Here’s where the fun begins! From the airport you have several options below to then arrive at the port (Piombino Marittima), where you’ll ultimately catch the Ferry to arrive to your final destination, Elba Island. Either: a.) 🚗 Rent a Car! (Yes, they drive on the right side!) ➖We strongly encourage you to rent a car. ➖Every airport offers rental cars onsite, simply follow the signage or ask for help to locate to the rental car offices. ➖Pre book your rental car by simply searching Google, Kayak, or Expedia. ➖Automatic cars are not the norm in Italy. If you do not feel comfortable driving stick shift, please make sure you specify/book (automatic car) on your reservation ➖ Depending on airport - the drive will take approximately 2-3 hours OR b.) 🚉 Take the Train! This can be a little more challenging but is a more economical option NOTE: Traveling by train (from Rome) will take 4-5 hours, please plan timing accordingly! See details and links below to book your train tickets. c.) 🚗🧑💼Hire a private driver ➖Uber, Lyft, or book a private driver to take you to the port. This is a more costly transportation option. If choosing this option you might consider renting a motorino (vespa) or car while on the island. ‼️Make sure you are booking transportation to Piombino Marittima‼️—NOT PIOMBINO! They are not the same and are roughly 2.7km apart) You need to specify this on your train ticket, or in the car on your maps directions, or to your private driver.

Upon arriving at Piombino Marittima, you will need to book a ferry ticket. The ferry will transport you and your group across the sea to the port of Portoferraio on Elba Island. If you will be staying with us at the Hotel Hermitage or Biodola, the concierge can assist you with booking your Ferry ticket at discounted pricing. To arrange your ferry through the concierge, simply email concierge@hotelhermitage.it with the following details: Your arrival and departure dates, the size of your group and whether you’ll be traveling with a car. If you prefer to book your ferry ticket independently, please use the following link/information: Choose Your Travel Date: Decide on the date and time you want to travel from Piombino Marittima to Portoferraio. Visit a Ferry Booking Website: Go to a reliable ferry booking platform such as: Toremar, Moby, BluNavy Enter Your Trip Details: Select "Piombino Marittima" as your departure port. Select "Portoferraio" as your destination. Enter the number of passengers and vehicles (if applicable). Choose a Ferry Time: Review the available ferry schedules and choose a suitable time. Ferry Tips: *Make sure to download/print your ticket ahead of your journey. *Arrive Early: Arrive at Piombino Marittima at least 30-45 minutes before departure for check-in and boarding. *The ferry ride takes approximately 1 hour
