Originally built in 1806, the home of the Arts Club served as the residence of James Monroe during his years as Secretary of State and for the first few months of his presidency until the White House was fully restored in September 1817. The Arts Club was established in 1916 to promote the visual, performing, and literary arts. Every month, the Arts Club showcases the work of a different artist. At our wedding, we are excited that the Club will be featuring the work of watercolorist and journalist Lily Spandorf, who was known for the news illustrations she created for the Washington Post and other publications, and later in her career for recording the transformation of Washington, D.C.’s urban landscape through her art.
