Barton Springs
Within Zilker Park's 358 acres lies one of the crown jewels of Austin: Barton Springs Pool. The pool itself measures three acres in size and is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, ideal for year-round swimming! This is a family favorite spot!
South Congress Bat Bridge
When most people think of Austin, visions of things like tasty taco and musicians performing all over town come to mind. But the city is also known for its love of certain winged nocturnal animals that appear at sunset. Yep, those are the Mexican Free-Tailed Bats. Every day at sunset these beautiful bats fly out from under South Congress bridge! It’s the couples favorite thing about Austin. They love their Batty-bois!
Zilker Metropolitan Park
Austin’s oldest metropolitan park! The park is located at the juncture of Barton Creek and Lady Bird Lake and comprises more than 350 acres of publicly owned land. The park serves as a hub for many recreational activities and includes major facilities and amenities including Barton Springs Pool, Zilker Botanical Garden, Austin Nature and Science Center, Zilker Clubhouse, Girl Scout Lodge, Sunshine Camp, Zilker Hillside Theater, Zilker Caretaker Lodge, Umlauf Sculpture Gardens, McBeth Recreation Center, the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, and Barton Creek Trail. This is a family favorite park! The groom took the bride on her first picnic here for her birthday in 2024.
Texas Capitol
The Texas Capitol is widely recognized as one of the nation's most distinguished state capitols. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
South Congress Avenue
This vibrant neighborhood south of Lady Bird Lake is a must-stroll for visitors and a popular hangout for locals. South Congress oozes homespun character and boasts the story of Austin’s yesteryear in its boutiques, eateries, galleries and music venues. This Avenue isn’t just an Austin favorite! But a family favorite as well, stop by Gelato Paradiso, Paper Work, and Monkey See Monkey Do for personal favorites!
Pease District Park
With stunning limestone bluffs, shaded trails and a rich cultural history, Pease Park makes Austin feel like Austin. Pease Park Conservancy celebrates the diverse ecology and history that make Austin’s first public park valuable and unique. The Conservancy works to restore, enhance and maintain this 84-acre public green space for the sustainable use and enjoyment of all.
Zilker Botanical Garden
This “jewel in the heart of Austin” features heritage live oaks set into a hillside, and offers a lush, shady respite from everyday urban life with panoramic views to downtown and beyond. Theme gardens include the Taniguchi Japanese Garden, The Riparian Streambed, The Hartman Prehistoric Garden, and The Mabel Davis Rose Garden. These and other gardens are woven together with pathways, streams, and Koi-filled ponds, creating an urban oasis full of shaded hideaways, sunny lawn areas, and thousands of native and cultivated plants.
Wonderspaces Austin
Wonderspaces presents extraordinary art installations and signature cocktails to experience together with friends and family. Open year-round with regular changes to the artwork lineup. This museum is a couple favorite! The bride brought the groom here for his 39th birthday and they loved every art installation.
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
The University of Texas at Austin Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center uses native plants to restore and create sustainable, beautiful landscapes. We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation of native plants through our gardens, research, education, and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife, and enhance human health and happiness. In 2017, we were officially designated the Botanic Garden and Arboretum of Texas.
Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve
Stepping into Mayfield Park is not unlike stepping into an oasis. Towering palm trees, lush gardens and brilliant peacocks gather around the ponds, all of which is surrounded by a rock wall and the "desert" of a city beyond. Mayfield is a metaphorical oasis, too. People from all walks of life visit the park as a respite from their busy days. Whether they are there to gather artistic inspiration, to be one with nature while doing yoga or just to get some quiet time from the office, visitors come to Mayfield to bask in its cool, calm and collected feel.
