Travel Note
As a reminder if you are bringing your car over on the ferry you need to arrive in Woods Hole 30 minutes prior to your departure time. If you are taking the 10:45 boat, you must be there by 10:15. Double check your reservation to see if passenger tickets are included. If not, you will need to purchase passenger tickets for every one in the car. If you are not bringing a car over and plan to park in one of the Steamship Authority lots we recommend checking the Steamship website before you leave to see which lot is open. It will most likely be the Thomas Landers lot at 22 Technology Park Dr, East Falmouth (but double check!!) You should allow 45 minutes before the boat you're aiming for. Passenger tickets can either be purchased online (add them to your apple wallet) or at the ticket counter in Woods Hole. The passenger tickets are not for specific boats and they do not expire for a year.
Rental Car
When ordering Uber and Lyfts we recommend allowing extra time. The Island is bigger than most expect and the Uber/Lyfts are not as common as they are in the city. It may take time for them to get to your location.
Rental Car
For those of you who have not yet been to MV, it is bigger than you think. If you choose not to bring your car over, don't worry there are plenty of ways to get around. There is a public bus, taxi, rental cars and Uber/Lyft.
Travel Note
The steamship authority from Woods Hole is the most common option for getting to the Vineyard. If you are planning to stay for more than the weekend it may be worth it to consider bringing your car over on the boat. Car reservations are required and become available in January. We HIGHLY recommend making a reservation ASAP. You will need to arrive 30 minutes in advance of your reservation if you have a car. You will drive your car on the ferry in Woods Hole, and off the ferry when you arrive on Martha's Vineyard. There are two arrival terminals on Martha's Vineyard, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. You can then utilize your own vehicle for your stay on the Vineyard. If you chose not to bring a car you will park in the assigned lots, take the quick bus to the terminal and board the ferry on foot. There is a luggage cart to help you with your bags. We would recommend you arrive at the parking lot 30 minutes before the scheduled ferry you would like to take.
Flight
There are limited options when flying to the Vineyard. Both JetBlue and Cape Air offer flights from Boston.
House Or Rental
Both Airbnb, VRBO and other similar companies are becoming increasingly available on the Vineyard. This is our favorite option when we travel. We encourage everyone to explore this option especially if you will be traveling and/or staying in groups. These options are often cost effective and flexible with length of stays.
Hotel
Hotel
There is no shortage of places to stay on the Vineyard. We have only listed a few of the more popular hotels but there are plenty of others as well as Inns and Bed & Breakfasts. The wedding is in West Tisbury but please don't feel like you need to stay in that town (see Getting Around MV) Please reach out with any questions on where to stay.
