We have to give some credit to the Karsnitz'. Shelly and Ross introduced Cristina to "Glasses Boy" at a group happy hour at Merchant Bar in Wilmington, Delaware. The Karsnitz' came up with the idea while spending New Years with Brian. Later on, Shelly told Cristina she had found someone that was not "Cristina's type"; however Shelly thought they would be a perfect match. Turns out not only was Brian her type, they were also a perfect match.

Two years later, at the same spot they met, Merchant Bar in Wilmington, Delaware, Brian proposed to Cristina. With a lot of help from their family and friends, Brian was able to make their engagement a complete surprise! It was Brian's birthday and the day he received a job offer from his firm, Baird Mandalas Brockstedt. Cristina thought they were going out to celebrate the job offer. They went to a happy hour at Merchant Bar, where Brian had set up a photographer to capture the moment. After the proposal, they had reservations at Domaine Hudson for dinner. Cristina had no idea that their parents and siblings would be waiting for them at Domaine Hudson to celebrate. After dinner and too much crying between Ernesto (Cristina's father) and the bride-to-be, they went back to Brian and Cristina's house only to be surprised again by their friends that had snuck into their house with champagne, cake, and decorations.

Why Portugal? When Brian asked Cristina's parents for permission to marry their daughter, they both said yes; however Ernesto had a contingency that his daughter had to get married in Viseu. Generations of women from Paula's family have been married in this Cathedral. So, Brian and Cristina are keeping that tradition alive!
