Maine Travel Guide

The Wedding Website of Brette Caraway and Jozsef Szucs
Whether you're flying into Boston and taking a coastal road-trip or touching down in Maine, New England is full of historic places, delicious food and natural wonders. Below are some of our suggestions for Camden and other coastal towns!
Things to do in Camden:

Things to do in Camden:

Goose River Golf Course

50 Park St, Rockport, ME 04856
, (207) 236-8488

Goose River Golf Course is a course in the neighboring town of Rockport if you are interested in setting up a tee time! Per the website, Goose River Golf Club only offers greens fees through phone call or online booking through Teesnap on their website. They do not accept any coupons, or greens fee charges through any third party source other than MidCoastDeals.com. Please keep this in mind when making your reservation!

Mount Battie - Hiking & Scenic Views

280 Belfast Rd, Camden, ME 04843
, (207) 236-3109

The Mount Battie trail at Camden Hills State Park offers a relatively short, but very rewarding moderate level hike up the south-facing side of the mountain. Although there are some steep pitches, and a bit of scrambling through rock and ledge areas is required, the view over Camden and the islands dotting Penobscot Bay makes this climb well worth the effort. Ascending the stone tower on Mount Battie's 780' summit further enhances the opportunity to soak in the 360-degree panorama. Camden Hills State Park also offers a variety of different trails depending on your group's preferred difficulty level. Please review the website for any disclaimers or notices from the park before planning your trip.

Camden Lighthouses

Camden and it's surrounding towns has a number of lighthouses to visit and admire. Below is a list of a few of the closest lighthouses. Curtis Island Lighthouse The Curtis Island Lighthouse is at the entrance of the Camden Harbor. While only accessible by boat, it can still be viewed from the coast. Indian Island Lighthouse The Indian Island Lighthouse is a privately owned lighthouse in Rockport Bay. It can be seen from the Rockport Marine Park, which is only a few miles outside of Camden. Owls Head Lighthouse While the Owls Head Lighthouse is a bit further from Camden, 14 miles south of Camden in Owls Head, the view is still one you won't want to miss. Visit their website before you plan your trip, as you may be able to tour inside the lighthouse depending on the day!

Cellardoor Winery and Vineyard

367 Youngtown Road, Lincolnville, ME 04849
, (207) 763-4478

Cellardoor Winery is a beautiful winery and vineyard just north of Camden in Lincolnville. We enjoyed the venue tour and a bottle of wine overlooking the vineyard on our engagement trip. For our 5 year anniversary, we even ordered a bottle from Cellardoor to share.

Sea Dog Brewing Co. - Restaurant

1 Main Street, Camden, ME 04843
, (207)-230-1306

Sea Dog Brewing Co. is another restaurant that backs up to the Camden Harbor. A more casual setting, Sea Dog Brewing serves everything from Maine lobster rolls to pub staples.

Waterfront - Restaurant

48 Bayview Street, Camden, ME 04843
, (207) 236-3747

Waterfront is a seafood and american style restaurant right on the Camden Harbor. With an alternating lunch and dinner menu, the Waterfront provides a scenic view while you recharge from your Maine adventures.

Bleeker and Greer - Maine Style Market

310 Commercial St, Rockport, ME 04856

While not much of an activity in itself, the Bleeker & Greer market is a must try if you venture out to Rockport. They have a fresh selection of meats , cheeses, produce and local adult beverages. On our engagement trip, we stayed very close to Bleeker & Greer and thought it's quaint set up was very cute!

Things to do in Portland:

Portland Head Light

1000 Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107

With it's completion in 1791, Portland Head Light is the oldest lighthouse in Maine! The lighthouse is a great place to stop and take in the beautiful ocean views. The adjacent ninety-acre Fort Williams Park offers picnic facilities, hiking opportunities, sports and recreation areas and historic structures.

Bite into Maine

1000 Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107

Bite Into Maine is a food truck that is stationed in the park surrounding the Portland Head Light. They serve a variety of lobster rolls and Maine-based drinks, the perfect pick me up after admiring the lighthouse!

Lucky Catch Lobstering Cruise

170 Commercial St., Portland, ME 04101
, (207) 761-0941

If you're spending time in Portland and are feeling extra adventurous, a lobstering or scenic cruise would be a great way to get on the water! Weather permitting, Lucky Catch cruises is one of the companies that operates lobstering excursions daily starting the first weekend of Maine. They highly recommend making an advanced reservation, as space on the boat is limited.

Oxbow Blending & Bottling

49 Washington Avenue, Portland, ME 04101

Oxbow is one of Portland's many breweries. We visited during our engagement trip and enjoyed their beer flights. If you have the time, we definitely recommend trying one of Portland's breweries!

Restaurants in Portland

Portland is home to many restaurants that were opened by chefs who worked and trained in NYC. The food options are unlimited, and when surrounded by the historic charm of Portland, you can't go wrong. Some of our favorites are listed below: Duckfat 43 Middle Street, Portland, Maine 04101 Duckfat is hugely popular for their frites & milkshakes. While they most likely will have a wait, it was absolutely worth it! Gillbert's Chowder House 92 Commercial St, Portland, ME 04101 A super casual restaurant on the bay, Gillbert's had some of the most memorable Clam Chowder of our time in Portland.
