Ameck and I met at church, but it wasn’t my intention to pursue her from the start. She was a greeter, so naturally we were introduced to each other pretty soon after I started going to Bethel, and she definitely caught my eye right away. However, I honestly thought she was out of my league, and her beautiful smile was so radiant that I almost forgot my name when she asked. She tried to get me to sit up front, but I typically like to sit in the back, so I sat down right in front of where she was standing near the back. She said I was staring, but how could I not? That was our only interaction for a couple of weeks or so until I went to my first young adult event at church. Once again, I was sitting in the back, but the event leader had everyone come up to the front, and I unknowingly sat next to Ameck. This is where we ended up hitting it off, as we were joking and laughing all night, although I still didn’t think about dating her. Another couple of weeks passed, and I was at TopGolf celebrating my birthday with my friends and family. I posted on Facebook, and she messaged me directly saying “It looks like you are having fun without me, I see”. This is the moment I thought, “maybe she does like me”, and decided to pursue her. From that moment, we started messaging each other daily, and eventually I built up the courage to ask her out on a date. We went to the movies, and there was some awkwardness being that it was the first date, but we both had a good time. After the date we went back to her dorm room at UTSA, and I decided to be upfront with her about my past, and at the time I was surprised how well she took it. Having known her now for 6 years and knowing how understanding and loving she is, it’s not a surprise now how she handled it. Unbeknownst to me, that was when she really started to like me because of how vulnerable and open I was. We went on more dates, and fell in love fairly quickly, and the rest is history.
