The iconic 3.5-mile Cliff Walk begins at the edge of Easton Beach (First Beach) and The Chanler, stretching all the way to the east end of Bailey’s Beach (Reject’s Beach). Along the way, you’ll find several entrance and exit points (including the famous Forty Steps) if you prefer to explore just a portion of the path. We love taking in the dramatic coastal views, native wildlife, and the stunning Gilded Age mansions. Blending nature and architectural history, this walk offers the quintessential Newport experience in one unforgettable route.
Second Beach rocks!!! It’s just a few minutes from downtown Newport - wide, scenic, and known for its soft sand and beautiful views of Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. Second Beach is perfect for families and large friend groups. Bring your coolers, beer die table, and $ if you want to enjoy a lobster roll from Salty’s concession stand. There are multiple parking lots available (~$30 cash), but they do fill up fast - we recommend getting there early and enjoying a proper beach day!
Gooseberry Beach is located along Newport’s scenic 10-mile Ocean Drive. If you’re looking for a more relaxed vibe, this is your spot! The beach is open to the public but you’ll need to arrive by car and purchase a daily parking pass (~$30 @ gooseberrybeach.com). Plan ahead if you’d like to spend time here - Ubers/rideshares aren’t allowed to drop off. The slight inconvenience only adds to Goosberry’s charm, making is one of Newport’s most beautiful hidden gems.
Located at beginning of the Cliff Walk - close to downtown & easily accessible! If you can’t snag a street spot, there are multiple parking lots available (~$20 cash). Don’t worry about packing a lunch - there’s a great concession stand, and you can’t leave without grabbing a frozen lemonade from Del’s Lemonade Truck, a true Rhode Island summer staple!
One of the most breathtaking coastal drives in New England! If you’re looking for raw Atlantic Beauty, this is a must. Begin downtown at the intersection of Thames Street and Wellington Avenue. Pass Ida Lewis Yacht Club, and continue making right turns, following the signs for Ocean Drive. Along the southern coastline you’ll pass: Fort Adams State Park Castle Hill Inn Brenton Point State Park Gooseberry Beach Newport’s famous Gilded Age Mansions. Pro Tip: 1. We love going at golden hour and stopping at Brenton Point State Park - it’s the ideal spot for a sunset picnic! You can’t beat the panoramic ocean views and there’s free parking here. 2. Stop at Castle Hill Inn for a drink on the lawn! 3. Rent a Scoot Coup for the cruise!!! 4. Make the drive your own. Without stopping, it takes ~25-30 minutes, but with scenic stops plan for 1-2 hrs if you want to really explore!
For the ultimate Newport experience, spend an afternoon at Castle Hill - one of the most iconic spots in town. It’s just a quick drive/Uber from downtown and sits right at the edge of Ocean Drive. Grab drinks at The Lawn Bar, or book a reservation for a meal inside. It’s definitely one of our favorites!
Explore the iconic “cottages” of Newport’s Gilded Age at the Newport Mansions - set along Bellevue Avenue, just a short drive from downtown. Step inside opulent homes like The Breakers, Marble House, and Rosecliff to experience the stunning architecture, manicured gardens, and lavish lifestyle of the late 19th century. Pro Tip: 1. Buy tickets online in advance to skip any lines. 2. Start with The Breakers - it’s the largest and most famous of the mansions. 3. Go early in the day to beat any tour buses.
Located in the heart of Newport on Bellevue Avenue, the International Tennis Hall of Fame is a unique mix of history, sport, and stunning architecture. Whether you’re a tennis fan or not, it’s such a cool and unexpected Newport gem, and the grounds are gorgeous to walk through.
