The Proposal July 3, 2021

How It All Started

In early 2019, my sister Karen texted me a picture of this super-hot guy named Alec. He worked with and was friends with her husband Robb. She said Alec would be coming with them to participate in the annual Firefighter Stair Climb in Seattle, which is a fundraiser for Leukemia research. The climb is 69 flights: 1,396 steps. And the firefighters make the climb wearing 50 pounds of firefighter gear! Alec came as planned, and both he and Robb conquered that challenge. Afterward, it is tradition for the firefighters to go out and party in the city. Unfortunately for me, when I walked into the restaurant with my daughter and brother, Alec thought my brother was my boyfriend! So, we still hadn't met when Karen and I had to leave to put the kids to bed. Later on, we all came back together and I finally met Alec in line at an Irish Bar. Alec and I hit it off immediately and the night eventually took us on various adventures in and around Pike Place Market. We were still together at 2 in the morning having bacon and eggs at Lost Lake on Capitol Hill. Reluctantly, we had to say goodbye after eating—with a sweet kiss on the nose. There was no way of knowing when or if we’d see each other again since we hadn't exchanged numbers and lived in different states. The next morning, he texted me after asking Robb for my number. We talked every single day after that. Short visits turned into a pandemic move to Missoula when my college went online. And now we’re getting married! I’ve been hooked on that Montana man ever since we met!
