Question

What is the weather like in el Valle de Guadalupe?

Answer

Although weather in Mexico is usually pretty warm, in the winter northern Mexico can get quite chilly. If you’re checking out the weather forecast before your trip to Valle De Guadalupe, note that there are two cities in Mexico with that name. When looking up weather for Valle De Guadalupe make sure to look up Valle De Guadalupe in Baja California – NOT Jalisco. If you want to make sure that you’re getting the right weather forecast, look up the weather for Ensenada. Valle De Guadalupe is located just 45 minutes away from Ensenada so the weather in Ensenada will be very similar to Valle De Guadalupe. Overall weather in Valle De Guadalupe wine region is pretty mild varying between 50 degrees F in the winter up to 85 degrees F in the summer. Nighttime is always cool as the fog rolls in, cooling the temperature.

Question

What is el Valle de Guadalupe?

Answer

The relaxing and low-key Valle de Guadalupe (Guadalupe Valley), located 20 minutes inland of Ensenada and 2 hours south of San Diego, is one of the world's hottest up-and-coming wine regions. Home to over 200 wineries, this region has not yet been completely discovered and still holds rustic charm (and enough dirt roads you may think you are in Iowa!). You will find modern, grandiose wineries next to vineyards that have been family owned for generations. Some of the best restaurants in Mexico can be found here too.

Question

Do I need a passport?

Answer

Yes! All guests must have a valid passport to enter Mexico for our wedding. Give yourself plenty of time to apply for a passport if you don't have one or if it expired. Processing times can take up to 12 weeks. Here is the link to apply for one: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply.html

Question

Are US dollars and credit cards accepted in El Valle de Guadalupe?

Answer

Yes! You need a passport but you don't need to worry about having pesos. US dollars and credit cards are happily accepted at all wineries and establishments in the Valle.

Question

I am going to drive down to el Valle de Guadalupe. Do I need international car insurance?

Answer

We use and recommend GEICO for temporary international car insurance in Mexico. The entire process is online and all you have to do is print a couple of forms when you've completed your payment, this usually costs $21-30 per day.

Question

I am going to drive down to el Valle de Guadalupe. Where do I cross?

Answer

For border crossings from San Diego, there are three entries you can use to get to the Valle: San Ysidrio, Garita de Otay and Tecate. We recommend San Ysidrio for entrance, and either Garita de Otay or Tecate for return. Please double check their schedules and waiting border times through this website: https://bwt.cbp.gov/ *waiting times are only for crossing back to the US from Mexico. There is no wait to cross into Mexico.

Question

I am going to drive down to el Valle de Guadalupe. Can I drive a rental car into Mexico?

Answer

Yes, you may drive a rental car, but please verify this with the rental car company prior to booking as some companies do not allow crossing to Mexico in their vehicles.

Question

What can I expect as I cross the border to Mexico?

Answer

We have never had a wait nor been stopped for a passport check when crossing the border into Mexico. It is very easy and you should be in el Valle de Guadalupe within two hours of leaving San Diego, or four hours of leaving LA. Crossing back into the United States can be much more lengthy with border crossing wait times as you will need to stop for a passport check. For anyone flying out of San Diego Monday, we recommend you be checked out and on the way to the border by 8 am.

Question

Is Baja and El Valle de Guadalupe safe?

Answer

Yes! We wouldn't invite you if it wasn't.
