Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly what a day

Brandon and Darcy found each other in late summer 2020 on the dating app "Hinge" (it was Darcy's last try and Brandon's first). The two hit it off immediately, both learning that they each had a black cat they adored, and chatted effortlessly. They finally met in person outside of Winchester Tavern in Fort Worth, TX, sharing drinks and exploring downtown. It has been a fairytale for them ever since. Five years later, on a Sedona trip with friends, Brandon decided to show Darcy his favorite hike. Their boots kicked up the red sand, a breeze cooled their faces, and the sun beamed down as the group ascended the rock and clay obstacles. Brandon became more nervous as the summit approached; eager to escape the throngs of other hikers and find a quiet spot, he picked up the pace. Darcy, unknowingly, asked for more water, and, with effort, kept up. Fay Canyon Arch, a crimson curve haloing a quiet, peaceful plateau, offered its shade in greeting. There were no sounds except for the chatter of their friends and the choral wind bouncing off the bright walls. Brandon spotted a flat rock at the center of the arch, the perfect seat for the view overlooking Sedona's landscape, and sat, prompting Darcy to join him. To her annoyance, once she sat down Brandon immediately stood right back up and started sifting through his bag. Brandon: "Do you know where you put the water?" Darcy: (irked that he won't sit down with her) "I gave it to you." (Brandon would like to point out that this was especially sassy.) He continued searching, Darcy even more annoyed now that they don't have water for the long hike down. She watched as the bottle came into view within the bag, but his hand was not reaching for it. Instead, he pulled out a delicate box. And knelt. With their friends surrounding them, this gorgeous view that Brandon kept hidden away until the perfect occasion, with all the years of love she had, their time joyously spent, Darcy gladly said yes.
