Brady & Gracie

Gracie and Nicole have shared a close friendship for nearly a decade. Brady and Darian have shared a close friendship for the same amount of time. Through Nicole, who knew Darian, Brady was first introduced to Gracie in the summer of 2021. At the time, they spent time together once or twice in group settings, but as they were both in other relationships, they never truly had the opportunity to know one another beyond acquaintances. A few years later, in late September 2023, life looked very different. Both single and navigating challenging seasons of life, they unexpectedly crossed paths again in a way neither of them could have anticipated. What began as a brief exchange of messages after a tumultuous life event quickly became something more meaningful. Over the course of just a few days, they found comfort and understanding in one another. One evening, Brady stayed up until five in the morning texting Gracie, despite having work the next day, simply because she couldn't sleep, and he didn't want her to be alone.

About three days into texting, Brady came to see Gracie at work. He also delivered a television to her apartment (a story Nicole and Darian tell far better than they ever could), and waited to follow her home at the end of her shift to make sure she got home safe. He stayed the night that night - and, in many ways, has remained by her side ever since. Brady was certain about his intentions from the very beginning. After spending that first evening together, he returned the next day with a small bag of clothes, soon followed by a toothbrush and a pair of slippers, subtle signs that he had every intention of staying close. Night after night, he chose to return, and in that steady presence their relationship deepened with ease. Time spent together felt natural and abundant, and what began as companionship quickly grew into something lasting. Just three weeks later, on October 26, 2023, Brady asked Gracie to be his girlfriend. With a hopeful heart, she said yes - thinking, perhaps, that sometimes the most beautiful things begin with a leap of faith.

Brady knew early on that Gracie was the one. Just two weeks into seeing each other, before they were even a couple, he attempted his first proposal. He was very enthusiastic, and very intoxicated. He ended up falling when he tried kneeling. Gracie sweetly told him that he needed to ask again when he was sober. This was also the first time he ever told Gracie that he loved her. In November, he proposed again in his sleep. Gracie lovingly told him that he’d have to ask again when he was fully awake. What she did not yet realize was that Brady had already purchased the ring. He had no memory of either proposal until she later told him, but his intentions, even then, were unmistakably sincere.

Over the span of a few weeks, Gracie began feeling slightly unwell - subtle waves of nausea and a lingering ache she couldn’t quite explain. On a quiet whim, while at Nicole’s dad’s house, she decided to take a pregnancy test. To her complete astonishment, it was positive. Overcome with disbelief, and feeling a mix of nerves and excitement, she stopped at the store on her way home and thoughtfully gathered a few small treasures - pregnancy tests, tiny baby socks, and other sweet keepsakes - placing them carefully into a box. On November 26, 2023, late one night after they had both returned home from work, she handed Brady the box as an “early birthday present.” As he opened it and realized what it meant, he was just as stunned. In that moment, disbelief turned to pure joy. Together, they began imagining the beautiful new chapter ahead, defining what life would look like not only as a newly committed couple, but as soon-to-be parents.

Gracie and Brady planned a festive “Friendsmas” celebration on Christmas Eve. It was a morning planned with a gift exchange, brunch, and time spent together at Another Broken Egg Café. In the days leading up to it, Brady had hinted that he had a special surprise in store for Gracie, though she never imagined what it would be. As they sat around the table with friends, exchanging gifts and sharing laughter, Brady created a moment she would never forget. In the midst of the joy and celebration, he rose from his seat, got down on one knee, and asked Gracie to marry him. Completely taken by surprise, she was momentarily speechless. She, of course, joyfully said yes!

In the months that followed, Gracie and Brady turned their hearts and attention toward preparing for the arrival of their son. Amid the excitement of moving and nesting, they had originally planned to wait until 2026 or 2027 to marry. But one quiet Tuesday evening, while sitting together at the dinner table, Gracie asked Brady how he would feel about making it official now - something simple and legal - so that she could share the same last name as both her son and the man she loved. When they paused to consider it, the answer felt easy. They already knew they wanted forever with each other. Why wait? That very evening, Gracie applied online for their marriage license, and the two of them sat side by side writing their own ceremony script. Brady knew all of Darian's personal information, and got him ordained online. (A fun detail: Darian had no idea that this was happening!) Before the night was over, they packed a small bag and made preparations for their intimate ceremony the following day. It was another beautiful, spontaneous step in their unfolding love story.

They drove to Lafayette to begin the next chapter of their story. After picking up their marriage license, they made their way to a dear friend’s home, where the final pieces of their spontaneous plan would come together. When they arrived, Brady turned to Darian and said, “Go get your suit - you’ve got a couple to marry.” At the same time, Gracie asked Nicole to gather her daughter, who would serve as a witness alongside her mom. What had begun as a simple dinner-table conversation was now unfolding into something real. Gracie and Brady changed into their attire, hearts full and anticipation building. On May 15, at around 7 o’clock in the evening, beneath the gentle branches of a willow tree beside a pond, they exchanged vows. It was an intimate, heartfelt beginning to the life they had already chosen together.

And now, two years later, they find themselves gathered here. They are surrounded by the very people who have supported, encouraged, and loved them along the way, celebrating their two-year wedding anniversary. Though the beginning of their relationship was beautifully spontaneous and filled with unexpected turns, they hold a deep belief that everything unfolds exactly as it is meant to. Each moment, each decision, led them here. They are truly honored and profoundly grateful to share this day with you - celebrating not only their love, but the story, the journey, and the life they continue to build together. Who would have thought that one night of companionship all those years ago would turn into something this beautiful?
