Question

Navigating COVID in Mexico

Answer

BEFORE TRAVELING: Please & por favor... get vaccinated + that booster shot if you haven't already. ASAP. You & everyone else need to be protected. Not just for our wedding, but in life. For real. That said, it would be smart to bring a hard copy of your original vaccination card AND a photo of it on your phone. ON MASKS: The best way to explain it is, always have a mask with you and put it on when it seems the right thing to do. You will be spending a lot of time outside, and it's certainly not required there. However, please be respectful and wear a mask when you're inside ordering a coffee, entering a store or restaurant, etc. ON TESTING: When you arrive & check-in at the resort, your greeter will schedule a COVID rapid test for ~24 hours before your scheduled flight back home. The testing takes place on the property and doesn't take long to get the results back. You WILL need to have your negative test results in hand at the Cancun airport before boarding your flight home.

Question

Should I bring cash? Does it have to be in Mexican pesos?

Answer

Yes to cash. Nope to pesos. We STRONGLY recommend bringing small bills for tipping: plenty of ones, fives & tens. The front desk does provide change for larger bills, but it's easier to be prepared. While tipping isn't mandatory, it is customary to thank the staff for their services. We recommend tipping for bar service, pool-side service, housekeeping/turn down services, room service, and for service at restaurants. It doesn't have to be on a daily/per transaction basis, but tips are greatly appreciated there. You can also use your credit card for souvenirs and other purchases. Make sure your bank knows you'll be traveling outside the States!

Question

Once I land in Cancun, do what/go where?

Answer

After letting out a high-pitched “Aye aye aye!" — exit the plane, grab your bags, and proceed to customs. With COVID, this part of the process is not as intense as it may have been in the past. You'll see car rental and taxi cab services inside — don't worry about everyone waving at you to use their services. Just head outside and... GRAB A DRINK! There's a bar outside, so grab a margarita, piña colada, Corona, or whatever — makes the ride to the resort even more fun! ***Please check out the "TRAVEL" tab and enter your flight information. We will follow up with all of our guests on their transportation to the resort and the group that they will be traveling with.***

Question

What should I expect once I get to the resort?

Answer

The greeter will ask to see your passport once you hop out of the shuttle. You will be seated in their beautiful lobby to go over COVID protocols, fill out their questionnaire, and schedule that aforementioned COVID test for the trip back home. You may get approached about a timeshare tour. If you're interested, great! If you're not, the quicker you tell them that you’re not interested, the quicker you can check into your room and meet us at the pool!

Question

What's up with this pool party on Saturday!?!

Answer

There is a huge pool party (which is literally why we’re getting married the day before) from 1 to 5pm. They'll have a DJ, water aerobics, a paleta cart, and good party vibes. We reserved 4 cabanas at the 20º87º Pool, right by the swim-up bar. This Happily Ever After Party will be a LOT of fun.

Question

Pool by day, but how about at night?

Answer

If you're looking for where everyone will be most evenings, start with Bar Balam. This is UNICO's cocktail bar, right behind the main lobby, "radiating warmth, while calling to mind the mystique of hidden-door cocktail dens of yore." Later in the night, head over to the Palmera Lounge, which is at the end of the long hallway where all the gift shops are. It's technically a Cuban-themed cocktail and cigar bar, but it's really a dance club... WHICH is where the after-party will be right after the wedding!

Question

What excursions do you recommend?

Answer

So glad you asked. While we know you’re coming to Mexico for our wedding (¡Gracias!), we also know this is YOUR vacation. Do your thing and have fun! UNICO 20˚87˚ has their list: https://www.unicohotelrivieramaya.com/es/experiencia/tours/ This seems to be a popular one not listed on their website: https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/279734?s=42&unique_share_id=31002B62-7302-481F-B21E-C2C63C413A80&fbclid=IwAR03PhUyeSfxMp_U7UM57M0lITk2oMgR5LQ8w5coQCddc25uUpitNag8Ag8&_branch_match_id=980906241858963857
