We first met in 2017 at a pizza party hosted by mutual friends Kait and David. Brittany knew Kait through their mutual friend Ashley, and Greg went to high school with David and lived with David and Kait at the time. We realized right away that we both had a lot in common, and found each other easy to talk to. A couple of years went by, during which our friendship grew as we saw each other more and more through our mutual friends. Then on July 5th 2019, after having a great time talking and playing games, the timing was right and Greg built up the courage to ask Brittany if she'd like to go out with him sometime. After almost a month of cajoling on Greg's part, we finally agreed on a time and location for what would become our first date. On July 27th, Brittany and Greg went out for the first time by themselves, spending a memorable night walking through downtown Sanford. We were both very nervous at first, but quickly loosened up as the night went on and we bonded over some craft beers and cocktails. We found that we both have lots in common, can talk about anything, and most importantly, have an amazing and fun time together. We have talked to each other every day since then. After a few more dates, Greg asked Brittany to officially be his girlfriend on September 1st. The two years since then have been the best of our lives. From puppy parties to New Years, from traveling around the country to traveling to every craft brewery in Orlando, from events with friends to events with family, Brittany and Greg have been inseparable through it all. We are each other's best friend, and we know that if the rest of our lives together are half as great as the last two years have been, we are the luckiest people in the world.
After finding some time out of earshot of Brittany to speak with her father Don in October of 2020, and then finding more time to tell his own mother, Greg’s decision to propose was set in stone. Now he had to figure out how to do it. Every year growing up, Brittany's family spent a week at New Smyrna Beach. Greg was lucky enough to spend his first beach week with the family in 2020, and realized not only how special that week was to Brittany, but how much fun it is too! It didn't take much to realize that the beach would be the perfect place to propose Brittany and Greg are both extremely lucky and grateful to have such loving families who have played critical roles in making us who we are today. We each were fortunate enough to be given engagement rings from our grandmothers, Jane Richdale and Jackie Partain. Once Greg saw how remarkably similar (and beautiful) both rings were, he knew he would have no problem proposing with both of them in the same box. That way the much more creative and artistically gifted Brittany could be free to design the ring she truly wanted. Despite soliciting advice from both his and Brittany’s mothers, there was still much left up in the air as the beach trip drew near. Brittany’s family was already at the beach, and Greg’s mother Janet drove up from her home in South Florida. Greg had to figure out how to keep Janet’s presence a surprise, keep the rings hidden from Brittany, devise a plan to get everyone off the beach and into nice clothes, and worry about someone giving away the big surprise, all while recovering from a bad cold! But in the end everything was perfect. Brittany and Greg walked hand in hand along the water, until Greg made Brittany look out to see some fictional dolphins as he got down on one knee and said the most beautiful speech he could think of - none of which Brittany remembers. After shaking her head in disbelief, Brittany said Yes! And the entire family celebrated.
