Mt Vernon is about a 15 minute drive from Old Town Alexandria Mt Vernon is farther from DC and not accessible via the Metro subway Alexandria is closer to DC, the airports, and is walkable & accessible via Metro subway There are plentiful Airbnb, Vrbo, and other hotel options in the area that might be more cost-effective if you are planning longer stays with larger groups - do what works best for you! We will offer an Uber discount code for you to use on the day of the wedding. Uber/Lyft/Taxi are plentiful all over the DC/Alexandria/Mt Vernon area. Washington National (DCA)

DCA is the closest & recommended airport. Alexandria is walkable, Metro subway accessible, and a 15 min drive from DCA. Mt Vernon is a 30 min drive from DCA and not walkable/Metro accessible.

IAD is another airport option further away. About 1-hour drive or 1.5-hour metro subway ride to Alexandria/DC.

DC Metro Subway/Bus System

WMATA (called "Metro") has many subway and bus stations connecting to the airports, Alexandria, and DC sight seeing, so no car necessary. You can use the same Metro card for both subway trains and buses. Metro cards available to purchase at subway station vending machines for $10 ($2 for the plastic, plus $8 stored fare value). Most subway rides are less than $4 each way. King St. station is the stop for Old Town Alexandria on the Yellow & Blue lines. Uber, Lyft, and taxi also available everywhere in the DC area, including Alexandria and Mount Vernon.
