Travel

A very abbreviated guide to getting around Sydney.

Travel Note

Your public transport options

Within Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, the Hunter and the Illawarra you can use an Opal card or use your contactless devices to pay (e.g. your credit card or Apple Pay). 1. Trains - Central Station is the main interchange for suburban, intercity and metro services. Good when not on strike. 2. Metro - kind of like the MTR, metro line through the CBD and under the harbour. Fast!! 3. Light rail - L1: Central to Dulwich Hill (west); L2: Central to Randwick (us in the East!); L3: Circular Quay to Junior Kingsford. Mostly reliable. 4. Ferries - very convenient way to cross the harbour at many different points. It's a lifestyle choice. 5. Rideshare - Uber or Didi. Didi is usually cheaper. 6. Buses - we all know what buses are. Sometimes on time.

Travel Note

Places you might want to stay at

1. CBD - The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Barangaroo Very convenient to stay in the middle of the city, you've got your pick of hotel options in the area. 2. Inner East - Surry Hills, Paddington Pretty close to the city, lots of great restaurants, bars, art galleries, boutiques. Super fun, good option esp if you like heritage architecture. 3. Eastern Suburbs - Bondi, Coogee, Randwick Great option close to beaches, although not as convenient (buses and light rail only). HOWEVER - added bonus of being close to us in Randwick. 4. Inner West - Newtown, Glebe, Annandale, Marrickville Suburbs with a rep for being more cool - great arts scene, amazing cafes and restaurants.
