Steven and Anna unknowing competed against each other at a Harry Potter Trivia Night on January 18, 2020. Anna's team of two, The She's Who Must Not Be Named, including Maid of Honor, Sarah, was victorious over Steven's team, Dumbledore's Navy, including best man, Scott. At the end of the competition, Steven shyly approached Anna and Sarah and congratulated us on our victory. Sarah slipped away to the Ladies to give us a moment to chat. Steven mentioned he went to church, which immediately piqued my interest, but he failed to ask for my number and I was in no mood to chase men, so I said goodbye to him. Upon returning from the Ladies, Sarah was surprised to learn Steven had not asked for my number. Meanwhile, Steven exited the bar and his friends asked if he got my number. When he said he hadn't asked, his friends insisted he go back inside and get my phone number! Steven came back in and shyly invited me to join him at a nearby bar. He pulled out his phone to show me where it was on the map and I eagerly volunteered my phone number instead. We went out on our first date the next week and then did not see each other for about a month due to our individual travel plans. Then the pandemic struck and we suddenly had ample free time to spend with each other. We tried meeting at the beach and staying six feet apart, but we were just so bad at it. There was a gentle magnetic force between us and eventually we gave in and just made each other our "covid bubble." I'd often heard people say "when you know, you know" regarding the person they married, but I truly did not believe it until I found Steven. It did not take us long at all to know that God had brought us together and we just knew we were meant to be. Steven was planning leave Hawaii and move back to California. I was planning to stay in Hawaii. I wrecked his plans and he shifted gears, deciding to stay in Hawaii. Then life changed and here I am changing my plans to follow him in his Navy Pilot career.
