Hilton Head Island is about 4 hours from Charlotte. If you choose the flying route, there are a couple of options.
1. Flying into Savannah, GA (SAV) is the best option. Though it's about 45 miles from HHI, it's a lot more dependable (and usually cheaper since it is a larger airport) than the small airport on the island. From there, you have some options to HHI: you can rent a car, or you take an uber (usually around $50-$60).
2. There is an airport on the island (HHH). It's certainly convenient to fly right onto the island, since most hotels are within 10 miles, but we have to warn you that flights into can be a bit undependable. Since it's such a small airport that only allows small planes to fly in, the weather has to be pretty much perfect for your flight to be on time!
3. If Savannah and Hilton Head airports don't have reasonable flights for your timing/budget, you can also fly into Charleston, SC (CHS). Charleston is about a 2 hour drive, so we'd suggest renting a car.

Uber and Lyft on the island
Uber and Lyft are very hard to get on the island. The best way to get around is by car.
