Rebekah and I were on trips out West. I was camping around with a couple friends and Rebekah was on a road trip with her dad. We both split away from our people for the day and went out for solo hikes. The hike we both happened to choose at the exact same time on the exact same day in the 22nd largest National Park in the country is a "strenuous" 11 mile hike called Murphy's Loop. I was walking along when up ahead I saw a human which was surprising because there weren't many of them out there. This person, we'll call her stranger for now, had stopped to apparently get a rock out of her boot. As I was gaining ground, I started shuffling my feet so as not to startle her. She was apparently lost in the wild and didn't hear me so in trying not to scare her, I did just that and was met with "Woah you scared the jeepers out of me!" And those my friends were the very first words exchanged between the two of us. I was trying hard not to be the creepy dude in the middle of nowhere so I apologized for startling her and let her carry on. A few minutes go by and she's still up ahead and pulls off to the side so I inevitably caught back up. When I approached she was eating a snack (what a surprise). I apologize again for scaring her, and if any of you know Rebekah, she then went on to ask me questions about me and where I'm from and what I was doing out here. We chatted for a few minutes (this is when I first saw that beautiful smile of hers) and then I began hiking again. This is where our stories differ. I'll tell you the true version though. I would occasionally look behind me and notice Bekah slowly gaining ground on me as if she was trying to catch back up and sure enough after maybe 10 minutes she was there again! It had nothing to do with me taking in the beautiful scenery and slowly taking my phone out to snap photos, which may have allowed for her to catch me. Well however you look at it, we met back up and hiked together for the next five hours. The rest, as they say, is history
