Things To Do
Parkman Mountain
Our favorite trail on the island, and the one we hike the most. Also, it's where we got engaged! Parkman is one of the smaller mountains on MDI, but it still has great views out to Cranberry Island and beyond.
Brown Mountain
Our favorite way up is the Norumbega Mountain Trail, which starts partway around Lower Hadlock Pond and is a gradual ascent through beautiful forested areas up the Southside of the mountain.
Little Long Pond
A beautiful, relatively flat loop for walking or running. There are a few different variations, but the basic 3ish-mile carriage road around the pond is one of our favorite, and most frequent, walks on the island.
Carriage Roads
There are about 45 miles of carriage roads for walkers, runners, and bikers that weave around the peaks and valleys of the park. We have a few different favorite loops, including one that winds up the backside of Parkman Mountain.

A beautiful boutique brimming with a carefully curated selection of clothing, children’s toys, housewares, fancy foods, personal care products, books, and much, much more. If you've gotten a gift from us in the past two years, it was probably from Mercantile!

Seaside Deli & Sweets
The perfect spot to grab a coffee & pastry in the morning and a sandwich for lunch. David is particularly fond of their fried chicken sandwich, but you can't go wrong with anything on Jennifer's menu.
Ted's Takeout
Located right next to the Marina, Ted's Takeout is a food truck serving up delicious lobster rolls and more.
Island Bike Rental
Several rental options for interested cyclists ranging from recreational bikes perfect for the carriage roads and around town to road or hybrid bikes best for a ride round the Park Loop Road. All rentals include a water bottle cage, helmet, map, and expert advice.
Bar Harbor Coastal Cab & Tours
Woody provides visitors with a private narrated tour filled with a fun mix of island facts, local history, cultural information, and humor. It is one of the best ways to experience the island away from crowds.
Rockend Art Barn
You have probably spotted one or two Dan Falt pieces in our house! He creates incredible and unique wooden animal sculptures, and his studio was both home-base and art camp for Annie every summer for many years.

Lisa's store & studio space is beachy and fun, filled with her signature sea glass jewelry, beautifully curated gifts, luxury goods from Italy, and more.
Park Loop Road
Park Loop Road is a 27-mile, go-to scenic drive around the east side of Mount Desert Island, connecting Acadia's lakes, mountains, and shoreline.
Cadillac Mountain
Cadillac is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and the first place to view sunrise in the U.S. The South Ridge Trail Loop is an 8.1 mile moderate hike. Alternatively, Cadillac Summit Road is a windy, paved 3.5 mile route up to the summit for cars and cyclists.

Beal's Lobster Pier
There are lots of conflicting opinions about the best lobster roll on the island, but Beal's easily serves up our favorite one!

From soft cashmere sweaters to beautiful dinnerware and everything in between, the Kimball Shop & Boutique is a must-stop on Main Street. The two stores prioritize color, texture, and design, and it's almost impossible to leave empty handed.

A fifth-generation family-run business that serves as our local hardware, marine, and mercantile store on MDI. The Brown's stock basically everything you could ever need, including a dream selection of YETI gear.
Sand Beach
A great spot to hang out with a picnic lunch and, if you're brave, take a freezing dip in the ocean.
Thunder Hole
A tiny inlet carved naturally out of coastal rocks that is largely considered to be one of Maine’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders.
