The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village

This is really 3 things in one! The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation is a museum of historical artifacts and also features really cool traveling exhibitions. Greenfield Village is an outdoor museum of historical homes and other buildings - and they are featuring Holiday Nights all December long! Book tickets in advance if you want to enjoy a festive, candlelit evening wandering the historical village. Thirdly, the Rouge Factory Tour departs from the Henry Ford campus and gives you a chance to tour the Dearborn Truck Plant ("The Rouge") - with assembly line catwalks, collector cars, and history about the Motor City and Ford.

Twelve Oaks Mall

Twelve Oaks Mall (and West Oaks Mall) is literally at the Baronette Renaissance Hotel. It has all the usual mall things if you forgot something, get bored, etc. It is also home to several restaurants - including Cheesecake Factory, Carrabba's, and Lotus Garden.

Campus Martius Park

Outdoor winter fun at Campus Martius and Cadillac Place - visit Detroit's Christmas tree, go ice skating, and browse the local pop-up Christmas marketplace and beer garden. Open until 10 pm (11 on Saturdays), although some shops close earlier.

Detroit Zoo

Awesome, obviously. Open 10-5pm, and 5:30-10pm Friday and Saturday nights for Wild Lights, a terrific festival of LED animals and fun winter activities. Be aware that very few animals are accessible during Wild Lights.

Very cool art museum (a personal favorite!) if you get into town early. Open 10-5 on Saturdays, but closed on Mondays.

Michigan Science Center

Noel Night is a holiday festival in downtown Detroit happening (luck you!) On Saturday, December 7 this year, 5-10 pm. Museums are open, live music, art events, food trucks, and more. Parking is a pain but it's a fun time!
