We met during our first day of college. Monday, August 23rd, 2021. It was Speech 101. The very first assignment was for all students to get to the front of the classroom and tell the class about themselves with a speech. For Billy, this was easy so he volunteered himself to go first. The sound of Billy's voice along with his height caught Saina's attention. She found him to be cute or whatever. He said his speech and had to pick who the next person would be. He noticed this short, pretty, young lady sitting to his left at the corner of his eye. He picked her to go next, hiding his smile behind his face-mask (still in the pandemic during this time). She goes up and makes her speech. Saina talked very animated, waving her hands around to illustrate what she was describing. Billy was seated at the very front of the class and soaked it all up. This encounter led to chats before and after class. Chatting turned into texting, texting turned into dates, dates turned into a relationship. And now this relationship will evolve into a marriage that will be guided and blessed by the Holy Spirit. The first 2 years of our relationship were great. We supported each other immensely as we got closer to earning our degrees while also building upon the love we had for each other. However, it was not Christ-centered. We spent all of 2023 trying to incorporate some form of spirituality into our relationship. We tried Buddhism, Hinduism, nothing sticked. And yet, our families kept us tied to God whether we liked it or not. Whether it was Billy's mother forcing him to do Bible Study at home or Saina's grandmother dragging her to church, it was further proof that no matter how much you deny or ignore God, He will NEVER ignore you. Fast forward to New Year's Eve 2023. We wanted to usher in 2024 at a church as we told ourselves 2024 will be when we decided to turn around together and face God willingly. We spent the last 2 hours of 2023 driving around the South Broward area looking for a church. We weren't able to find any, they were all either closed or packed to the point where parking seemed impossible. And so, the next day we decided to try and find a church nearby that would bless us with a word. Saina googled "local Baptist churches" and the first couple options didn't really stick with us. But when she clicked on "New Hope Missionary Baptist Church", our lives changed forever. We went through their Facebook, found their YouTube channel, and watched the most recent sermon that was live streamed. We decided this would be our church. However, Billy was working on Sunday's at the time. So Saina would watch the live-stream on Sunday morning's and Billy would watch the replay on Sunday evenings. Finally we were able to attend in-person together for Easter and we felt a transformation because of the atmosphere. We began to pray and read the Word almost daily after this, as we both prayed that I would work a job that wouldn't require me to work Sunday's so Billy can attend in-person as well. A couple months later, God answered my prayer and then some and we both got baptized by the end of 2024. Today, we are now both heavily involved at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and seek to become leaders not just at church but within the Kingdom! Amen!
