How We Met

A Syracuse Love Story

Lauren & Bill were placed in the same freshman dorm at Syracuse University (BBB) in 2012, but didn’t meet until mutual friends (thanks Clayton & Jesse) introduced us to each other sophomore year. After a few brief encounters, one of which involved an eyeliner laden Clayton, it eventually came time for a sorority formal, and Lauren just wanted someone that “could hang with the group and be a fun date.” Bill got the invite. Within seconds of arriving at the formal, Lauren & Bill separately got thrown out of the function (longer story), but the night was still young and it was then that we drowned our sorrows in Lucy’s fishbowls and an amazing friendship began. After Lauren returned home from her semester abroad her junior year, Bill made it his mission to reconnect. We really got to know each other throughout the spring and summer, capped off by an eventful 21st birthday for Lauren. While the college shenanigans, flirtations, and friendship grew, it wasn’t truly until senior year that we started dating. As most college romances go, it was unexpected, laughable at times, and surely not without some bumps in the road, but by Lauren’s graduation in May 2016, we had found our way to each other, fully committed and supremely happy. On June 25, 2016, after a day full of New York City milestones, including Bill’s first “life-changing” bodega sandwich and subway leaking experience, Bill used a Jenga game piece at Spritzenhaus33 in Brooklyn to make things "official" and we’ve been together ever since. Through a year of long distance with Bill finishing his masters in Syracuse and Lauren moving to NYC, countless trips to and from Cape Cod, Bill moving to Kips Bay in the city (or as he likes to specify, The Gem Saloon), us moving in with each other on the Upper East Side, weathering a pandemic in 500 square feet, and now living in our second apartment in Brooklyn, we've truly grown from two teenagers into two adults building a life together in NYC. It is no secret among the many things we hold sacred, vacationing at Bill’s family house on Cape Cod is high on the list. It's the place where we have shared many lobster rolls, beach sunsets, hydrangea admiration walks, oh and where we got engaged! Now nearly 10 years since we first met, we look forward to celebrating our upcoming nuptials with all of our favorite people in our favorite place!
