Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Grace Chapman and Krzysztof Herdzik
We can't wait to see you all in Gdańsk. This is where both World War II started, as well as the fall of the communism so it is a perfect place for a third internationally significant event. Here's what we love to do when we visit.
Explore Długa and Długi Targ

Explore Długa and Długi Targ

Długa, Gdańsk, Województwo pomorskie 80, Poland

Długa is the main tourist attraction in Gdańsk. It leads from the Golden Gate (Złota Brama) to the Neptune Fountain, transforming into Długi Market leading to Green Gate (Brama Zielona). It has lots of restaurants, shops and beautiful architecture. A must-see.

Pierogi at Mandu

Pierogi at Mandu

Elżbietańska 4/8, Gdańsk, Województwo pomorskie 80-894, Poland

The best pierogi in Gdansk is at Mandu. They don't take reservations so get in the queue nice and early. Top tip: make sure you get a desert dumpling...

Len

Len

52/53 Piwna, Gdańsk, Województwo pomorskie 80-831, Poland

With speciality coffee having a moment in Poland, we think this one of the best. Open from 8:30am every day, it's located on Piwna Street which runs parallel to Dluga and has lots of cafes, bars and amber jewellery shops all leading to St. Mary’s Basilica. Well worth a visit (and a cake).

Pułapka Craft Beer (Piwo) & Pizza

Pułapka Craft Beer (Piwo) & Pizza

20 Straganiarska, Gdańsk, Województwo pomorskie 80-837, Poland

Hands down. The BEST craft beer bar in Gdańsk. No more information required.

Cukiernia Sowa

Cukiernia Sowa

13 Długa, Gdańsk, Województwo pomorskie 80-831, Poland

Poland prides itself on its bakeries - and rightly so - and Cukiernia Sowa is one of the most beloved. Try Pączek (donuts with filling, recommended róża/rose), Faworki/Chrusty (angel wings), Bajaderka (a rum ball made of bakery leftovers - Grace's favourite) or any Sernik (cheesecake). Be wary- cheesecake is made with cottage cheese rather than cream cheese, so might be a bit tangier than you are used to!

Ministry of Herring and Vodka

Ministry of Herring and Vodka

Targ Drzewny 3/7 80-886, Gdansk, Poland

Many a night has been had here and not remembered the next day. Make sure you try their iconic lemon vodka (Cytrynówka Ministra), Toffee Fudge Vodka (Krówka) or if you're feeling brave Mad Dog (Wściekły Pies) - one of Grace's favourites... In addition to herring, you will find here "classic" bar snacks, e.g. jelly, tartare and pickles. Remember. Poland serves it's vodka in 50ml shots (double the UK standard measure).

Bar Turystyczny

Bar Turystyczny

8 Szeroka, Gdańsk, Województwo pomorskie 80-835, Poland

One of the few things remaining from communist times, are the Milk Bars- "Bar Mleczny". This foundational element of Polish food scene, is a government - subsidized (hence, cheap) source of cheap home cooking, that provides the best representation of traditional polish dishes. Best food you will have in Poland (apart from the wedding).

Museum of the Second World War

Museum of the Second World War

1 plac Władysława Bartoszewskiego, Gdańsk, Województwo pomorskie 80-862, Poland

If you want to spend time understanding and bearing witness to Poland's history in WWII, this is one of the the most memorable and impactful places you could visit. Also check out Westerplatte, the memorial to the start of WWII on the Gdańsk coastline. Website to book tickets: muzeum1939.pl/en Plenty of obvious trigger warnings for this one.

European Solidarity Centre

European Solidarity Centre

1 pI. Solidarności, Gdańsk, Województwo pomorskie 80-863, Poland

The European Solidarity Centre is a museum and library devoted to Poland's postwar fight for freedom and independence. Well worth a visit if you have time.

Długie Pobrzeze | Gdansk Waterfront

Długie Pobrzeze | Gdansk Waterfront

Długie Pobrzeze, 80-888, Poland

A great part of the city. Lots of restaurants and bars to sit and watch the world go by.

Elektryków

Elektryków

Elektryków, Gdańsk, Województwo pomorskie 80, Poland

Gdańsk thriving nightlife district! Located in the heart of Gdansk Shipyard where, in 1980, the “Solidarity” movement was born. Plenty of bars, street food, music and art in a post industrial maze of warehouses.
