Though Bexx knew of Matt as one of two of the bass players from her favorite local band, Out of the Beardspace, they hadn't really met or talked until a mutual bandmate, Sam, told Bexx to contact Matt to help her convert her Sprinter van into a tiny home. A few months later, with the intention of fixing it up ASAP and getting out of town for the long haul, Matt and Bexx started working on the van for trade: Bexx would cook a dope meal in exchange for assistance a few hours every week with the project. Working in tight quarters, the two got to know each other fairly quickly, and soon, Bexx would be thinking all week of what to cook next to properly thank (and tbh, impress) him. A "would you pass me that hammer" felt like flirting, the dinners became longer and more elaborate, and before long, van-day-Sundays weren't enough time together in the week. The van project became forgotten for awhile, and instead the two fell in love. They did eventually finish the van (aka their "love van"), which is now used for overnight trips for festivals, camping, and cross country journeys.
