Bethyn was a Crash Pad employee and Mauri, a Crash Pad guest, was running around in scandalously short shorts training for Ranger School. They began a friendship based on climbing and good food. Fast forward a few years of sporadic phone calls and Christmas cards, and both of them found themselves single for the first time in years. Mauri came to Chattanooga for a weekend climbing trip, and doggedly pursued Bethyn for the following two months. Finally giving in to his gorgeous blue eyes and persistent requests, they started dating April 14, 2016 (also happens to be Ruination Day, 'nough said). Climbing trips have taken the pair all over the US. Multi-pitch routes in Red Rock, Las Vegas, Cathedral, NH, and the Gunks, NY. Bouldering adventures in Bishop, CA, Joe's Valley, UT, New River Gorge, WV, Rumbling Bald, NC, and all over Chattanooga, TN. Every climbing trip has had its sleep deprived arguments and perfect sunsets, dinners and sore finger tips. Every trip reminded the pair that life is better together. Their wedding invite was created by the very talented artist Joy Taylor, and captures the incredible Black Velvet Canyon in Red Rock, Las Vegas. Mauri and Bethyn took their first big climbing trip there in March 2017, and had some epic climbing days. It stands in their memory as a first of true teamwork, vulnerability, and trust. After many pints of ice cream, bubble teas, and kale salads, Mauri proposed to Bethyn the day after Thanksgiving, 2018 in Three Sisters State Park in Colorado.
