Wissahickon Middle School and High School round about 1992-i97. There was a girl going through an identity crisis. Sometimes she was Beth, the name she’d been called since birth. Sometimes she was Liz, thanks to her 6th grade teacher. Sometimes she was Elizabeth, because it was fancy. Mostly she was Chip’s sister though. The “benefit” of having an older brother. And there was a boy, Kevin, one year younger almost to the day, with two older sisters having passed through the halls ahead of him. Sometimes Kevin had short hair, sometimes long, sometimes blue. While Beth was busy making distinguished honor roll and learning how to run without twisting an ankle, Kevin was learning guitar, playing baseball and hanging out with people Beth knew. And their paths never crossed. Sure, they knew each other’s circle of friends, even their siblings. The schools weren’t that big. But these two circles rarely met and even less frequently got along. To be continued...
Fast forward 20 years. Both Beth and Kevin had had other relationships, both had children, but the night of June 13, 2015, both were single. Beth’s BFF, Heather, two years ahead of her in school, was going to her 20th high school reunion and Beth was tagging along for moral support. And to be the DD. She was picking up two of Heather’s friends, women she knew as well. One of them was bringing a date. Kevin. The 5 of them shared a pleasant evening, laughing, reminiscing and remarking how fun the night was. So much so that Kevin stated he needed to find more reunions to go to. To which Beth jokingly said, “My 20th is in 2 years, you can be my date.” Which is how Beth ended up listed in Kevin’s phone as Reunion Date. Those who were there that night have all shared that they could see a spark between Beth and Kevin. For the most part, Beth at least was clueless. But after a week of non-stop texting, a random Saturday afternoon movie, then more nerd movies at his home together that night, Beth and Kevin had their first official date to see a night of Gershwin presented by the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Music Center in June 26, 2015. The rest, as they say, is history. They are more suited to the other than any couple anyone has ever known. Both had to go through some pretty hard times after school to make them the person they are today, but that person they each became was exactly what the other had been looking for. If their paths had crossed in school, they probably wouldn’t be here today, buying a house, adopting kittens and getting married. Their story is far from over. Both would be honored if you join them at their wedding: May 19, 2018.
