Weather and Packing for the Wedding

The average high temperature in Carmel during the summer is only 69°, and most everything we are doing will be outdoors. Be sure to check the weather before you leave, and bring layers. Although the reception is technically indoors, the wall of windows will be open, so bring warm stuff if you get cold easily.

It's a Beautiful Drive to Carmel!

We wholeheartedly recommend driving to Carmel/Monterey if you can! There are some beautiful views and fun stops along the way, and then you won't have to worry about renting a car.

This regional airport is the closest way to fly in, but is more limited in flights than the farther away San Jose International Airport.

This airport is about 45 minutes away from Monterey Bay, but offers international flights and more frequent flights than Monterey Airport.

CAMPING/GLAMPING

Camping and glamping opportunities abound in this gorgeous section of California. Some sites are easier to book ahead than others. Here's a short list of places you might want to try: *Saddle Mountain Ranch has tent sites and cabins so you can camp or glamp. About 15 mins from wedding. *Veteran's Park: camping right in the heart of Monterey, but first-come, first-served. *Laguna Seca Raceway: located "inland" in Monterey, 30-45 minutes from wedding venues. *Andrew Molera (walk-in camping): located in Big Sur, 45-60 minutes from wedding venues *State and private camping/glamping in Big Sur (do keyword search for Fernwood, Ventana)

There Is No Official Hotel

Lara contacted hotels about block rates, but none offered anything cheaper than you can find on various travel websites. We've never stayed in any of these places, but have tried to include a variety of prices and 'fanciness' levels in different nearby areas. If you reserve something refundable, don't forget to check periodically to see if rates go down!

A convenient 5-10 minute drive to the wedding locations. The website mentions free parking, so, yay!

A less expensive option located in Monterey, less than 2 miles from the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium and a 10-20 minute ride to the wedding locations. When last I checked, they had even better rates than the Super 8.
