Three years into grad school at UW Madison, we left our labs to write in the Microcosm cafe in the Microbial Sciences Building. When Beth arrived, Dan had already taken a seat. Beth saw this hot guy, Dan, in the empty cafe and decided to take a seat at the table next to his. Dan saw and recognized the girl, Beth, whom he pursued but didn’t talk to at a meeting in San Francisco. He spoke to her and won her over with honesty and humor (...and hotness). We talked for hours and a few of Beth’s friends even stopped by to screen him. We traded numbers, set up our first date that night, and the rest is history.
We had mutually decided to get married after moving to North Carolina, adopting two dogs, and finding a house. We took a trip to Philadelphia to design an ethically-sourced engagement ring. Dan had planned on popping the question in Philly but Beth foiled his plans. He waited until another meaningful moment and asked her while they were back in Madison. Uncharacteristically, he made reservations at a restaurant they used to frequent (the Great Dane) and he insisted that they go before leaving town. She knew it was coming but cried anyway and answered his heartfelt question with a “sure” to avoid crying more in public :) We can't wait to make this official and celebrate with you all!
Hi All! We have a new wedding date - Sunday, March 6, 2022. It's actually happening this time guys. Vaccines are widely available and we'll have had some time to get acquainted with our new baby girl by that point. WE CANNOT WAIT TO FINALLY CELEBRATE WITH YOU!!!
Lots of things have happened since we last saw you all! We got legally married in 2019 - we did this alone after deciding the day before - you didn't miss anything! We went to the courthouse in normal clothes on a weekday with very little planning (we didn't even think about witnesses or rings) and met a really kind couple in line. We wound up being each other's witnesses and going out for sushi to celebrate after. It was a fun, very informal courthouse visit --- but didn't feel like a wedding. We are still going to exchange vows and have a real ceremony when we have you all in Raleigh by our sides! We moved in 2020 - like many people, after spending more time at home when work shifted away from the office due to COVID, we decided it was time for a change and moved to Holly Springs, NC. While we spent so much time at home, it was nice to have a new place to organize for what we hoped would be a growing family. We had a baby girl (Adalyn) in 2021! We never envisioned having a kid before having this wedding but this past year has put life priorities into perspective. And maybe Baby Shark will be a fun addition to the reception playlist... We can't wait to catch up with all of you and make up for missed time in March 2022!!!
