Beth's friend, Katelyn, decided she would be cute and play "The Dating Game" with her by showing her fake pictures of bachelors. Finally, she decided to show Beth a picture of a real person, Frank, and Beth said she would not be opposed to meeting him. Meanwhile, Steve, Katelyn's father, told Frank he should meet Beth, because she was "weird like you are" and "reads books". Katelyn, along with Steve, then planned to set Frank and Beth up to meet. One day, while Beth was traveling in South Georgia, she came for spaghetti at the McDiffitt/Hobbs house. After everyone ate, cleaned up and was getting ready for bed, Frank finally shows up. He had had a long evening "busting beaver dams". They wind up listening to music and Steve talking for hours, not really say much to one another. Frank later asks Katelyn for Beth's number. He texts. She texts. A few days later, they went on a date to Steeplechase Grill in Vidalia. They became official on June 7, 2015, after seeing Chris Stapleton at the Georgia Theatre and Beth's high school reunion.
January 21, 2018. It felt like any other Saturday Beth had spent with Frank. They planned to go to an estate sale, antiquing and then go eat sushi later that day (No, they are not in their 50s). They were still in Buford, and it had become pretty late. Beth said they should just eat in town. Frank insisted that they go to Shokitini in Athens. Cut to Shokitini. Dinner was delicious. They even had the free fried oreos that you get when you sit at the sushi bar. As they were leaving, Frank said he wanted to show Beth a place he'd found on Georgia Traveler (PBS). He said it was ony half a mile away. Beth said they should just walk.... Beth deeply regretted this decision. The entire walk Beth said they should take an uber back because it was not well lit the way they were going...it was getting to be the bad part of town...it was going to be late whenever they did plan on leaving wherever they were going... As they climb the hill up Dearing Street, they come upon a well-lit, lone oak tree obstructing the road so much that only a single car could pass through. Frank asks Beth if she recognizes anything. She exclaims that this is "The Tree that Owns Itself" (Go to Wikipedia. There will be more than enough information for you there) and that she "hasn't thought about this tree in forever, loves the story and did you know that this wasn't the original tree, and it was an acorn of th.…." Frank has been silent, a rare occasion. As Beth turns to look at Frank, she finds him on one knee. Her vision gets blurry. He's saying something but she can't make it out. Frank says he didn't prepare much to say because he knew Beth wouldn't be able to remember it. But, Beth remembers that he said that the tree reminds him of her. The tree is independent, and so is Beth. Frank just wants to be a part of and share his life with Beth. From there, you'll have to ask Frank what he said. That was the proposal. The rest is and will be history. We can't wait to share that history with you.
