With over 300 years of rum-making expertise, the Mount Gay Rum Distillery boasts of being the oldest producer of Caribbean rum globally with uninterrupted operations. It is no wonder that it’s one of the most popular stops on any Barbados rum tour. The distillery still uses the original well which was dug in the early 18th century. Filtered by the island’s coral stone formations, it is the naturally purified water along with molasses (also called ‘black gold’) that make up the key ingredients in Caribbean rum. Like their well, their distillation technique has stood the test of time, having been unchanged since 1703.
