They first met at the hospital, when fire-medic Bernie brought patients to emergency nurse Berit. A little while later, they stumbled across each other on a dating app and matched right away. Their first date in 2023 was spent having a nice dinner and then winning big at casino bingo. In the car on the way to dinner, the Blink-182 song "First Date" came on and when they heard the acoustic version about a year later, it was immediately 'their song.' They took their time getting to know each other, primarily as friends and colleagues, but found their moment in 2024 when they reconnected and started falling for each other pretty hard. By January 2025 their relationship was in full-swing, and Berit and Maisy moved in with Bernie and Zelda. The dogs became inseparable, and so did Bernie and Berit. In December 2025, Bernie popped the big question while they were on a Caribbean cruise. Bernie had a plan to head to the top of the ship at sunset, but “it wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t for the wind!” Instead, he knelt down on their balcony overlooking the ocean. Berit forgot to look at the ring at first; she was too busy saying YES! It was the easiest decision she'd ever made- spending the rest of her life adventuring, laughing, and living life with her best friend. That's when the start of the wedding planning began, and here we are- counting down until the big day!
