We met at our church by chance. We never really talked or mingled in the same social circles before. Then that Summer our youth pastors encouraged us to join volunteer groups on Sunday mornings. We both happened to volunteer for the children's puppet theater and slowly got to know each other through the few hours we spent together on Sundays every week.
Our first date was a picnic in Maymont Park. I spent the whole time nervously talking about how excited I was to see the bears. We had a great time just walking around the gardens and talking until sunset. I knew he was the one when I talked his ear off, he laughed at my dorkiness, and still wanted to have a second date.
At the end of my sophomore year at college, Benjamin surprised me with a ticket to fly and visit him abroad in Europe. My second day in Italy we took a train to Cinque Terre and spent all day hiking between the Italian towns along the coast. Benjamin insisted we finish the day in Manarola and watch the sunset. While we were sitting on the rocks, admiring the sunset and talking about our dreams for the future, he asked if he could take a photo, set up his camera, and came back over to me. I looked over and he was down on one knee. After my shock, I squealed, shouted, “YES,” and we were engaged. We much appreciate your continued love and support, and while we feel it was the right decision to minimize our wedding festivities, we hope you understand it wasn’t easy to make. We wish you and your loved ones the very best in these uncertain times.
