In Denver there is a very convenient and easy-to-use light-rail system which allows access to the majority of the metro area. From DIA there is easy access to central Denver via the lightrail, so renting a car isn't absolutely necessary.

From Union Station in downtown Denver there are public transportation routes (including regional buses, local buses, and light-rail) to day-trip destinations all over the state such as Golden, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, and Idaho Springs.

The nearest light-rail station is about a block away for access to other parts of the city, but getting here from Union Station takes about 30 minutes via public transportation.
