Walter Station Brewery
We have to recommend Walter Station Brewery for a laid-back, open-air vibe and an awesome selection of craft beers. It's a perfect spot to kick back and enjoy a drink with friends. Plus, it's a fun place for some people-watching. You might even catch a few couples who look like they’re on a professional outing but are actually just on a first date disguised as an interview!
Social Hall Restaurant + Event Venue
Social Hall is a cool spot where we had our first official date, though it was only an hour since Amber had to rush off to meet her dad for dinner! Social Hall serves up some good food and a great selection of drinks, making it a nice place to relax and enjoy good company. Plus, they have games like darts, skeeball, and foosball, which we played on our date. And if you come for happy hour, the servers will definitely make it known!
Arboleda Restaurant
Arboleda holds a special place in our hearts as the spot for our first real date! We completely lost track of time there through our conversations and even went back to celebrate our first anniversary. The funny part is that we had our first date there their opening night, so the restaurant kind of commemorates the beginning of our love story as well. The ambience and beautifully designed space make it the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening. Amber's pick is always the lamb!
The Uncommon Chandler
We can’t help but mention The Uncommon. It was one of our earlier dates, and we ended up revisiting after a DeKonty family day. The atmosphere is fun and welcoming, with plenty of games to play while enjoying some decent food and drinks. It’s a nice spot to unwind with friends and engage in a little friendly competition.
Got Sushi?
Got Sushi? has been one of our go-to spots for fresh, delicious sushi, and it really holds a special place in our hearts! Michael introduced Amber to this favorite restaurant of his, and we’ve made some great memories there, including a fun double date with Lexi and Chal where we enjoyed some sake bombs. The staff is friendly, and the food is always exceptional. The Volcano Roll is definitely our favorite! Plus, they give free miso soup as an appetizer, and we all know Michael loves a good deal!
Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant- Chandler
One of our favorite memories together is our date at Cooper's Hawk, which we always love to frequent. The atmosphere is just right, and we enjoy exploring their extensive wine list every time. You definitely shouldn’t skip the wine flights! They were way more to drink than we expected though, so keep that in mind if you're driving!
Golfland Sunsplash
If you're looking for a fun outing, you should definitely check out Golfland! It holds a special memory for us, as it was where Michael asked Amber to be his girlfriend on one of our earlier dates. With its mini-golf courses and arcade games, Golfland is perfect for a playful day with friends or family. We hope you enjoy your time there just as we did!
Postino East
Postino is such a great spot that holds special memories for us, as it's where Amber first met Michael's friends! The lively atmosphere and stylish decor make it a great venue for gatherings. With its incredible bruschetta boards and a solid selection of wines, it’s the perfect place for sharing delicious bites together. We’re all about those $6 pitchers before 5 PM!
Beard Papa's
If you’re in the mood for something sweet, Beard Papa's is a must-visit! Amber introduced Michael to this place after the infamous hospital trip, and it quickly became a favorite. Known for their delicious cream puffs, this dessert spot takes classic flavors to the next level. The puffs are made fresh daily, with a light, flaky pastry that perfectly complements the rich and creamy fillings.
The Compass
The Compass is hands down one of our favorite dining spots in Phoenix! We celebrated Amber's birthday there, and it completely blew us away with the incredible food and breathtaking views. The menu features a variety of mouthwatering dishes that highlight fresh, local ingredients, and every bite is an absolute delight. Seriously, it’s some of the best food and best service ever!
Sorso Wine Room
Sorso Wine Room is definitely one of our favorite spots! We first visited on a date and fell in love with its cozy atmosphere and extensive wine selection. We even revisited for Michael's 30th birthday during a scavenger hunt. The knowledgeable staff is always ready to help you discover new wines, making it a fantastic place for both seasoned wine lovers and those just getting into it. Whether you're here for a casual night out or a special occasion, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and sip something delightful!
Clever Koi
Clever Koi is a great spot for a nice meal! We went there for our first double date with Dave and Cass, and we had a great time. The atmosphere is inviting, and the menu offers a nice selection of dishes that blend Asian flavors. The spicy ramen was definitely a highlight. It had just the right amount of kick (for Michael...Amber is a wimp when it comes to spicy foods)!
Joyride Taco House
Joyride is a great spot for tacos! We went there with Amber's mom and Aly, and we really enjoyed it. The tacos are flavorful, and Amber loves the horchata. It's a casual place that's perfect for a relaxed meal with family or friends. Definitely worth checking out!
Schnepf Farms
Schnepf Farms is a fantastic place to visit, especially during their Pumpkin Chili Party and Christmas events! We always make it a holiday tradition with the Bengsons, soaking in the festive atmosphere and enjoying all the activities they offer. If you're looking for a fun family outing or a way to celebrate the changing seasons, Schnepf Farms is definitely a must-visit!
Mill Avenue Shops
We hate to be the ones to recommend Mill Avenue, but we have to admit we've spent one too many nights there between Varsity Tavern for 21st birthdays, CASA after ASU games, and Sun Bar for 1 cent champagne birthday brunches and DJ sets. So, if you're looking for nightlife options, this is certainly a place to go. Besides, it's back on the old stomping grounds where their love story technically started but never quite began. Bonus, it's the site where Michael told Amber he loved her for the very first time.
Top of the Rock Restaurant
Top of the Rock is the ultimate romantic destination, and we had an unforgettable Valentine's Day celebration there! The stunning observation deck offers breathtaking views of the city, creating the perfect backdrop for a special occasion. If you go, definitely try the Tuna Cigars. They're a fun and tasty appetizer that you won’t want to miss!
OdySea Aquarium
OdySea Aquarium is a fun spot we visited for Amber's birthday! While it may not quite stack up to the National Aquarium in Baltimore, it definitely has its own charm as a unique attraction in the desert. If you're looking for a fun way to spend the day, OdySea Aquarium is a great choice and there are plenty of other activities in that Arizona Boardwalk area!
Pescada
Pescada is a fantastic seafood restaurant that made Amber's birthday truly special! Ironically, we went there after visiting the aquarium. With a focus on fresh and flavorful dishes, it’s the perfect spot for a memorable dining experience. The menu features a variety of seafood options, each beautifully prepared to highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients. And we can’t forget to mention the bread...it’s absolutely delicious and pairs perfectly with everything. Plus, they have $2 Oysters & $6 Cava every Tuesday and half off bottles & live music every Wednesday!
Dominick's Steakhouse
We definitely recommend Dominick's Steakhouse, where we kicked off Michael’s 30th birthday scavenger hunt! This upscale spot delivers an exceptional dining experience with its elegant atmosphere and attentive service. The menu features top-quality steaks and a variety of delicious sides, making it a perfect choice for any special occasion. They are pricey, so maybe hit up Talking Stick or some other casino before you go here.
Red White and Brew
Red White and Brew is the scene of one of our last dates in Arizona before getting engaged in Maryland! The atmosphere is great, and the food is delicious...just be ready for some seriously huge portion sizes! Whether you’re grabbing a bite with friends or having a cozy evening, it’s worth checking out!
San Tan Flat
San Tan Flat is such a fun spot, especially since it's where we went with our moms after we all toured Ashley Castle for the first time! It’s perfect for a casual night out, complete with bonfires, country dancing, and some seriously good eats. We loved the Duke burger. Amber polished off the whole thing! And the bonfire setup at night is unbeatable for making s’mores and enjoying some live country tunes. It’s a great place to relax, eat well, and soak in that wild west Arizona vibe.
