Although it will be towards the end of "winter" in Hawaii, there will be some Humpback Whales who have waited last minute to head back north. If we're still lucky, they will still be breaching, playing and jumping around Maui. It is up to you if you just want to chill at the beach and look out for them or book a boat tour to get into deeper water to possibly spot them.
It's Hawai'i, the Mecca of surfing. Have fun and protect the coral reefs! (Please note Hawai'i only allows reef safe sunscreen and please do not step on the coral even with water shoes). Recommendations to learn to surf: -Laniopoko in Lahaina (just be careful of vana or sea urchins, and the reef) -Breakwall in Lahaina -The Cove in Kihei Recommendations to snorkel: -Any beach on the west or south coast of Maui. *Advisory* because it's still considered "winter" in Hawaii, if you are inexperienced in the water please do not head to the north side of the island, the waves will be large.
Reservations are required to see the sunrise and are normally booked 1-3 months in advance. Driving to altitude is a must before hiking. Temperatures can drop to freezing towards the summit so pack layers! (This is coming from Ben, who loves the cold).
This a beautiful, scenic drive with many hikes and waterfalls along the route. Please be careful on the roads as they can be narrow and slick.
1 of 3 Luau recommendations, Reina has been to them all and loves them!
The 2nd of 3 Luau recommendations from Reina.
3rd Luau recommendation from Reina. Enjoy!
See website above! Also great views and is across the street from Ulupalakua Ranch.
-Foodland -Tamura's
If you don't feel like going all the way to Bully's, this is another great option right across the road from Maui Wines.
Favorite local seafood spot
Standard American fare with some local favorites. Also located in Lahaina. Place gets busy- make reservations!
Take a fun drive up the slopes Haleakala and enjoy a burger on the Triple-L ranch with spectacular views of the south side coast and neighboring islands! This local spot also gives the option to "pay it forward" to kids, elders, and families.
Plate Lunch Hawaiian style, ono grindz!
A brewery in Pukalani, Maui with awesome views of central Maui and West Maui Mountains. There are food trucks near by and a restaurant called Marlow (Italian restaurant) for some salads and flat breads.
Kalei's have really great plate lunches. They have a brick and mortar near Safeway in Maui Lani as well as a food truck somewhere on the island.
Reina has come here with her girlfriends and loves the atmosphere, drinks and food. There are also other restaurants near by in the Azeka Plaza and other food trucks if you are feeling something else.
An awesome sit down place near Kalama Park and The Cove for local food and fusion. Reina also went to middle school with one of the founding chefs.
Locally farmed ingredients for salads and sandwiches. It's an awesome place to go for healthy alternatives when you get tired of plate lunches. Reina also went to school with one of the founders of this Maui food chain.
This is one of Reina's brother's favorite brewery's. They also have great food and views! There are two locations, this one is in Kihei and they also have a location in Lahaina.
Beautiful views, great spirits, and food! Reina was there last for one of her high school friends' bridal shower.
