In the Summer of 2015, after their freshman year of college, Mackenzie and Ben met at Lollapalooza Music Festival in Chicago, IL. Mutual friends brought them together before the show and there was an immediate connection. They were both famously wearing bucket hats and Mackenzie quickly learned some of Ben’s friends already called him ‘Bucket Hat Ben.’ They soon discovered that they were both entering their sophomore year at Indiana University, and a future relationship felt inevitable. It’s safe to say that weekend was an important one since Mack has had Ben in her phone as “Lolla Boyfriend” for the last eight years. Between Chicago and returning to campus, the texts led to sporadic Facetimes, which then led to nightly calls that they both looked forward to all day. Then on August 22nd, just a couple days after being back on campus, Ben asked Mackenzie to be his girlfriend – she said yes, and they spent the next three years frolicking in Bloomington. After college, Mackenzie moved to Chicago and Ben back home to Connecticut for a year. However, when the prospect arose for Mackenzie to finally move to NYC (her lifelong dream), she quickly snatched the opportunity and they moved into the most incredible, but tiny, apartment in Greenwich Village. Now on their 5th year of navigating New York City together, the only thing missing was THE RING. On March 24, 2023, Ben decided to make it official and proposed to Mackenzie on a romantic trip to Sedona, Arizona. It was the best day of their lives! They are ready for the adventures that lie ahead and cannot wait to celebrate alongside friends and family in April 2024.
