The Trastevere neighborhood is one of the most vibrant, diverse, and authentic areas in Rome. Located on the west side of the Tiber River, its name translates to "beyond/across the Tiber" in Italian. Trastevere's cobblestone streets are lined with colorful, vine-covered buildings that house an array of restaurants, shops, and bars. It's also home to John Cabot University, where Eleena studied abroad, and, of course, our wedding festivities! This neighborhood is truly a gem, and we highly recommend taking the time to explore it while you’re here with us. Also, don’t miss the chance to join a food tour if you can; the food is unbelievable!
Often referred to as Rome's "eighth hill," Janiculum Hill offers breathtaking views of the city. It's just a short 20-minute hike up to the hill's promenade, where you can explore several small monuments. If you prefer to skip the hike, you can take a taxi directly to Piazzale Garibaldi. On the eastern slope of the hill, you'll find Orto Botanico, Rome's botanical garden, located behind the stunning late-baroque Palazzo Corsini. Our top recommendation is to bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the sunset while gazing out over the city—it truly offers the best view of Rome!
Galleria Borghese boasts the finest private art collection in Rome, featuring Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces by artists such as Caravaggio, Raphael, and Bernini. The gallery is housed in a stunning 17th-century villa, which is a work of art in itself, and is surrounded by the beautiful Borghese Gardens. It's located in the elegant neighborhood of Parioli, which is ideal for leisurely strolls, enjoying an Aperol spritz at a café, and people-watching.
If you love exploring Ancient Rome but have already checked the Colosseum and Roman Forum off your list, the Baths of Caracalla are a fantastic choice. Built between 212 and 216 AD, the Baths of Caracalla were the second-largest public baths in Rome. While the site is now mostly in ruins, the ground floor and much of the walls still stand. A fun fact: the Baths inspired the design of the Main Concourse in Grand Central Terminal, as well as the original Penn Station in New York City!
Nestled on Aventine Hill in Rome, this beautiful rose garden features over 1,100 species of roses, stunning views, and tributes to the land's Jewish roots. The garden blooms from April to June, making it a perfect hidden gem to explore during your visit!
