Yes! Last summer, Belle and Gjon celebrated a Theravada Buddhist wedding ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand, with Belle’s family to honor her Thai heritage. For this wedding, we are excited to honor Gjon’s Albanian roots and bring everyone together to experience the richness of our shared cultures. Catholic Ceremony: If this is your first time attending a Catholic wedding, you are welcome to join in most aspects of the ceremony, including the readings, prayers, and exchange of vows. However, Holy Communion (receiving the Eucharist, i.e, receiving and eating the wafer) is reserved for practicing Catholics. If you are not receiving communion, you can cross your arms across your chest to signify this during that part of the ceremony. Handfasting: During the ceremony, a handfasting ritual will be performed to honor Belle’s Irish heritage. This traditional Irish custom symbolizes the couple’s commitment and the joining of their lives. Albanian Traditions: Be ready for lots of lively Albanian music and dancing, including the traditional valle - a group dance where guests join hands and circle together. Whether you’re familiar with it or learning for the first time, everyone is encouraged to participate! It’s easy to pick up, and those familiar with it will love seeing everyone join in.
