Martin and I met around ten years ago on Catalina Island at Camp Fox. Martin was facilities special projects manager and crazy boat driver. I was summer help on a break from grad school. We had only one or two interactions the whole summer which true to form included Martin catching my elbow when I tripped getting aboard the boat he was driving. We went separate ways after that summer and didn't reacquaint until ten years later..... We were both working at another site on Catalina Island, have you noticed a theme? Martin was facilities manager at White's Landing, I was the site manager for an outdoor education company that ran camp for kids throughout California. Martin decided that I was the one for him and the chase commenced. Since I am not a flowers kind of girl, Martin had three months of creative convincing with 5:30 am coffees, finding my favorite shells on the beach and cooking dinners for my staff, before I would even consider going out. Six months of long distance dating and the writing was on the wall. The first time Martin proposed was spontaneous and I told him that I'd consider it if he did it right! After Martin successfully got his captain's lisence we began the process of moving to the island full time. Martin is now a boat captain and I work for the conservancy here on Catalina. It is a lovely thing to find one's match and live in the place that one feels the most at home. We have been blessed enough to find both. We invite you all to join us in our celebration and to always be a part of the fabric that will tell the story of our lives. Note: As much as we love children, budget constraints have kept us to smaller numbers for the main ceremony and reception.
