Lots of trails for mountain biking, including the more famous Downieville Downhill mountain bike trail (not for beginners).
Multiple lakes in the area for water recreation. Only lake not for swimming is (lower) Sardine Lake, which is strictly for fishing.
Lots of fishing up in the grate lakes basin. Sardine lake is stocked with trout every Fishing licenses can be purchased online or at Bassett's station. We will also have extra licenses to share with guests.
Sand pond is the warmest water in the lakes basin, and by warm I mean not freezing. It’s a great place to hang with kids. Shallow waters with surrounding grassy patches to set up camp for the day. Dogs are not allowed here. There are a few BBQ pits and public "toilets".
Best hike around! 5 miles round trip from packer saddle to the lookout and back.
If you want a view but would rather take it easy, this fire lookout is more accessible.
A beautiful water fall with ADA access. This one is easy for small kids with scooters or strollers. It is a bit of a drive down a dirt road off the highway.
Super adorable little town with a golf course and a few restaurants and housing. It’s only 20 minutes from the campground.
Quaint mountain town with a few restaurants and housing. There is an ice cream shop, free movie theater with classic movies and lots of mountain bike accommodations. It’s only 34 minutes from the campground.
Another quaint mountain town with a bar and a few different sleeping accommodation. There is a general store for last minute items. It’s also the spot for possible cell reception. Just 10 minutes from the campground.
One stop shot at the base of the lakes basin highway. Ice cream shop, gas, last minute camping items, cafe, fishing needs (including fishing license) and possibly cell service.
