A fun retelling of our engagement story, mostly from Seye's perspective with a few tidbits added by Marissa.
Well, it’s a tale as old as… online dating apps… it feels like a long time already but it was only a little over a year and a half ago. With so many friends and acquaintances in common, and only one degree of separation, it was only a matter of time before we met in a meet-cute old fashioned way, but since neither of us had the time to wait we got on Coffee Meets Bagel and found each other. We jumped on a call almost immediately after we connected and according to Marissa, it was a very quick, almost calculating call, as Seye quickly wrapped it up and promised to stay in touch. In Seye’s view, the proof of the pudding was in meeting up in real life, so he went for it and we agreed to meet at NoVY a few days later. To be honest, there was definitely an air of uncertainty about a country girl from rural Colorado developing a long-term love interest in a city-obsessed boy from Lagos. So it is fair to say that neither of us were overly confident that our first date would be the first of many to come. We were more of a “curiosity at first sight” kind of people. Marissa often jokes about how Seye didn’t deal his best cards on the first few dates (but instead saved them for discovery much later). Well, Seye likes to think of his approach more like the Lord’s first miracle at the Cana wedding. Save the best wine for last - he kept pursuing and dealing the next best card, so Marissa was intrigued enough to see if he had the winning hand in his pocket. Turns out, he wasn’t bluffing. We were never shy about our differences, and even when it became a talking point in our conversations, we developed this lingering sense that something special was brewing between us. The more we learned about each other, the more we leaned into what a shared life could look like. In truth, with each living moment in our relationship, we are convinced that our best wine is yet to flow out. For all the memories and adventures that we’ve shared in the countryside of Colorado, the coyote streets of Glen Park, the food hubs of the Mission district, the medieval steps of Europe, we know these are all a drop in the ocean of future adventures that await us. We are so excited to explore and experience the world together and we can’t wait to celebrate our new chapter with each one of you on May 23, 2025. We hope you’ll be there!!
