Hayden and Madeline wove in and out of each other's inner circles for years as students at Cabot High School. Madeline's childhood best friend, Jolene, who is also a former student of Hayden's mom, Jane Balgavy, was a mainstay in the Balgavy's home; Madeline always knew the Balgavy's in this way. She met John and Jane a few times through the years and simply always knew who Hayden was. The same was true for Hayden; he always knew who Madeline was. Even into college, the two continued to all but run right into each other for various reasons. When Jolene got married, Madeline was her Maid of Honor; Jane was her wedding director. Hayden was a guest at that wedding, too. Fast forward to 2014. Madeline and Hayden were both living and working in Little Rock, and apparently both hankering for a cheeseburger from Five Guys restaurant in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The cheeseburger part shouldn't surprise anyone, but what does come as a surprise is this particular choice on this particular day. Madeline's apartment, at that time, was located directly beside a Five Guys location in West Little Rock. There was no good reason for she and her mom to agree to meet at the North Little Rock location; alas, they did. As they sat, finishing their meal, Madeline noticed three guys walk into the restaurant: Phil Buck, Dan Grossman, and Hayden Balgavy. For those who aren't avid THV11 viewers, Phil Buck and Dan Grossman are former reporters who Hayden worked with then. And if we're being completely clear, Dan was the one who caught Madeline's eye (she didn't know Hayden was single). She reached out to Jolene to see if Hayden could make a connection between her and Dan. Then, Jolene suggested she actually go out with Hayden (Hayden had something to do with this). The next day, Hayden called Madeline to arrange a date. The day after that, they had their first date at Dizzy's Gypsy Bistro in downtown Little Rock. And that is the beginning of everything.
John and Jane surprised Madeline and Hayden with a trip to one of the many cities where they had seen them fall in love over the past three years: New York City. The trip was a Valentine's Day surprise that John and Jane had booked entirely. They'd secretly told Hayden about the trip a week before. Hayden then told Madeline's parents - all of this unbeknownst to Madeline. So the two traveled to their favorite rooftop spot in the city, which overlooks Times Square and the H&M headquarters building. 54 stories up, with that bold, bright red H&M in the background, Hayden dropped to a knee and asked Madeline to marry him. She delightedly said yes!
Hayden and Madeline combined households in 2015 after living independently for several years, so they are stocked up on many things that newly married couples might traditionally request on their registries. Towels? Got 'em. Small appliances? Too many to count. Outside of work and spending time with their family and friends, their current foci right now includes making their new house a home, traveling together, and relaxing in between, so items that most cultivate those activities are what will be found on their registries.
