Becky & Nate "met" online, and their first date was a Sunday Funday date for casual drinks after church - or at least Becky went to church that day :) Becky: I knew after our first date that I wanted a second date with this sweet Midwestern guy. I knew after the second date that I wanted to spend all my time with him. He has the sweetest nature, and he is the most thoughtful person I've ever known. I'm so lucky to call him my future husband. Nate: On our first date I knew there was something special about Becky. I was smitten by her quirky sense of humor and southern charm, but it was her kind heart that soon won mine.
Nate planned the most sneaky engagement, and I was caught totally by surprise! After the most fun drive ever of singing Christmas songs and cracking jokes, we arrived in Saugatuck, Michigan for what I was told was Lori’s (Nate's mom) surprise birthday weekend. While we were waiting for the party to arrive, we walked along the Kalamazoo river at a local park that was decorated for Christmas. We stood on a gazebo, and I’m saying things like “oh let’s sit on that bench and when your parents get here act like we had no idea they were coming, it’ll be funny," and he's going along with it, still saying we're waiting for his parents on this gazebo. That's when he told me “I have a confession to make... this weekend isn’t about my mom’s birthday. I planned this weekend to show you how much I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” At this point I’m super confused and just staring at him, I didn’t even see him down on his knee. When reality sets in, he asks me to marry him and I fall to my knees, crying, hugging and kissing him. He takes me to a nearby bed and breakfast cottage that he'd gotten for us, which had a bottle of champagne waiting for us from our best friend (and co- Maid of Honor) Cheryl, complete with the message “It’s about time.”
When we were planning our wedding, we could think of no better place than Kanuga, and we are so excited to have a weekend to spend with friends and family, celebrating all the people, places, and moments that have shaped us as a couple.
