How We Met

1.22.15

We met during our last semester at SUNY Oswego at a bar called Old City Hall that overlooks the Oswego River. We had each decided to head there with our friends to celebrate the start of our final semester of college. After a couple beverages, Becky's friends managed to help her muster up enough courage to go over and strike up a conversation with Hannah. Becky knew that the time was right when she saw all Hannah's friends get up at once to go outside while Hannah stayed behind to guard their table. Becky swooped in at that moment in what she believed to be a very suave and debonair fashion. After attempting to be cool and impress Hannah with small talk, Hannah finally put Becky out of her misery and asked if she wanted to get a drink. Before we knew it, minutes of conversation had turned into hours and we knew that we had found something special.

The Proposal

4.17.16

Hannah: I decided to propose to Becky doing one of our favorite activities, going for a hike. We went on a short hike to a waterfall near our apartment in Richmondville, NY. It was a short walk to the waterfall, however, my nervousness made if feel like miles. When we arrived at the top of the waterfall, I tried to get down on one knee and propose, but I dropped the ring! It bounced off of several rocks and into a shallow area of water. Luckily, Becky was able to pick it up and quickly hand it back to me! After that fiasco, I did my best to muster up a proposal; the speech I had planned completely vanished from my brain at that point. Thankfully, she said YES! Becky: One spring day, we woke up and Hannah told me that she wanted to take me on a small hike to a waterfall. We got in the car and she drove us to Christman Sanctuary/Nature Preserve. She was so distracted on our hike in, that she was pretty far ahead of me and was hardly phased when I tripped over a root and fell on the ground. She basically turned her head back and shouted, "You ok?" while she kept walking. We eventually got to the top of a waterfall and we were standing right on the edge. When I turned around she was getting down on one knee. I yelled, "Are your proposing!?", at which point I could tell I sort of ruined the surprise. Hannah opened the ring box and before we knew it the ring was falling towards the rocks at our feet. The ring had jostled loose during the hike and it was about to bounce over the edge of the waterfall! Without still processing what was going on, I reached out my hand quickly to grab the ring. I handed it back to Hannah so she could finish the proposal. I just kept asking, "Is this real life!?". Hannah told me I had to give her a real answer, so of course I said YES!
