Things To Do

While there are numerous things to do in Roatan, Honduras, here are a few of our favorites and things we intend to do while we are there:

Scuba Diving

West Bay, Bay Islands Department, Honduras

Roatán is home to the second-largest barrier reef in the world, making it an incredible destination for scuba diving. If you are interested in getting your scuba diving license, this is a fantastic place to do it! Many local shops offer certification courses. We recommend asking your hotel or rental provider for information and recommendations. For those who are already certified, Roatán offers some of the best diving in the world. You can book a scuba diving excursion through your hotel or rental place.

Snorkeling

West Bay, Bay Islands Department, Honduras

You can snorkel directly off of West Bay Beach. The best spots are found by walking west, particularly near resorts like Infinity Bay and The Kimpton Grand Roatán. You also have a couple of options for your adventure. You can ask your hotel or rental company for recommendations. We enjoyed both snorkeling directly off the beach and booking a boat trip to explore more distant parts of the reef. Both experiences were incredible! You are welcome to bring your own snorkeling gear. However, most hotels and resorts also have gear available for rent.

The Roatan Chocolate Factory

Main Street, West End, Roatan 34101, Honduras

The Roatan Chocolate Factory is a great stop for chocolate lovers. Here, you can learn about how cocoa beans are transformed into chocolate and sample a wide variety of flavors before purchasing your favorites to take home. We really enjoyed our experience here and took home many different chocolates to share!

Roatan Rum Company

ROATAN, Islas de la Bahía, Honduras

A visit to the Roatan Rum Company is a fun and delicious experience for anyone who enjoys a good rum or a sweet treat. Located between West End and West Bay, the company is situated on high ground, offering spectacular, panoramic views of the island. You can enjoy a free tasting of their artisanal rums and famous rum cakes. They offer a wide variety of unique flavors, from classic dark rum to tropical fruit infusions. After your tasting, you can purchase bottles to take home or explore their gift shop, which also features rum-infused cigars and other souvenirs. We loved our visit here and came home with a variety of rum and rum cakes.

Roatan Island Brewing Co

Palmetto Bay Road, Coxen Hole, Bay Islands Department, Honduras

For a relaxing afternoon and a taste of local craft beer, check out the Roatan Brewing Company. This local microbrewery is a fantastic spot to unwind, with a beautiful, lush outdoor seating area that's perfect for a lazy lunch or a cold drink. You can enjoy a flight to sample their selection of unique brews, which are all made right on the island. We particularly loved their flights and especially recommend their delicious Mango beer!

Mangrove Tours

34101 Oakridge Road, Oakridge, Bay Islands Department, Honduras

For a unique nature and cultural experience, consider a relaxing tour through Roatan's mangrove channels. Located on the east side of the island in areas like Jonesville and Oak Ridge, these tours take you through a dense and beautiful ecosystem. You'll board a small boat and navigate through narrow, naturally occurring tunnels in the mangroves, which were once used by pirates to hide from their enemies. It's a peaceful journey where you'll see a variety of birds and other local wildlife. It's a wonderful, serene change of pace from the beaches and a fantastic way to experience a different side of the island.
