Several of you know, but it is our pleasure to broadly reveal that we’ve been married for nearly a year (!), honoring our original wedding date of June 12, 2020 in a small ceremony with our families. Check out the “Our Wedding Day” and “Photos” sections for more! We are more in love every day, which makes it easier to share that we’ve decided to not have the wedding weekend we’d dreamed about and worked to construct for years (literally). COVID-19 simply required too many compromises. We would have needed to 1) cut the guest list in half, 2) mask up and not dance 3) extend our room block another night, and 4) drop the beach day/send-off event. Urging you all to be present with less freedom didn’t feel right. But tears are part of any wedding! And ours reflecting on the process are becoming much more infrequent as we increasingly focus on happiness ahead. Speaking of which, here’s how we’ve spent our time working and living in the same space (no shortage of togetherness as a married couple!): - We bought a house and are loving our island life on Alameda! Becca is the chief interior designer, while Mike mows the lawn and networks in the neighborhood. - Becca started a new job as Senior Legal Operations Manager at The RealReal and has managed to keep her wardrobe the same size. - Mike has set Strava records biking all over the Bay Area and finds local rides for things like beach yoga every weekend. - We brought home Stella, an amazing German Shepherd puppy who has stolen our hearts, challenges us, and helps us keep things in perspective. While we won’t have the communal festivities we envisioned, we are sincerely hopeful that we’ll find a way to celebrate in smaller settings with all of you in the future. For those who feel inclined to support our eventual honeymoon or journey as homeowners, please visit our registry tab above. The virus won this round, but provided we all put the safety of our communities first, we’ll keep making memories.
Becca and Mike met on April 7, 2016 at Marengo on the Alley in San Francisco’s Financial District, a perfect two blocks from each of their offices. Drinks turned into endless conversation, and they made their way to four more bars, laughing and learning about each other until well beyond closing time. Key among the night’s discoveries were: - They both worked in law, and would never hide from complex topics because of this early understanding. - Mike would always know what games were on and whether a bar had a TV. - Becca could drink as much as her date and had a unique appreciation for walking places and exploring neighborhoods. - They lived two blocks apart, and could see each other as often as they liked! This led to another four dates in their first week of knowing each other; interests cascading together and meals and TV shows becoming shared, thinking of their partner all the while. Amidst a trial-prep week for Becca, Mike delivered sweatshirts and snacks to her firm, and after she snuck out for a Warriors playoff game together, helped with arbitration materials until falling asleep on a binder around 4:00 AM. Becca taught Mike to slow down, creating an appreciation for the process of cooking and encouraging outdoor trips to hike or kayak instead of just running. This togetherness accelerated further when they moved to Oakland in January 2018. Becca sometimes picks out A’s games (only four losses in four years together!) and makes an effort to check out every local business and event, while Mike makes sure every bike ride is as full of bike lanes as possible. The happy couple knew right away that they wanted to get married in Lake Tahoe, where they’ve overcome Mike’s dislike of rocky beaches and susceptibility to serious sunburn, and conquered Becca’s frustration from snowboarding (a little bit caused by her eager teacher).
