Ethan & Angelica met at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. It may have been love at first sight for Ethan....except he thought Angelica did NOT like him. Little did he know, Angelica thought he was seeing someone else. Angelica was helping plan a birthday party for a mutual friend and asked Ethan if he would like to attend. He agreed and gave Angelica his number.... a WRONG number. After a couple of hours and correcting his mistake, it was the first step in a long friendship. Though their friendship had its highs and lows, it was a solid foundation for the relationship that grew. They spent many hours talking after work and there was no denying the connection between the two personalities...although they DID both deny it. After 2 and a half years, one of their very good mutual friends cornered Ethan at work and explained Angelica’s feelings for him. In his own words, “it was too good to be true.’’ When Angelica found out, she joked that her friend lied, but ultimately he knew the truth. They joined some friends at Knotts Scary Farm and Angelica was SURE he was going to ask her out. But he was too nervous. When Angelica was hoping for an “I want to take you out,” he blurted, “OK see you at work.” She started to doubt they would work out as a couple until one day after work, his friend tried hard to convince her to instead ask HIM out. She wouldn’t, but while he was walking her to her car that evening, she threw caution to the wind and kissed him. Their first outing together was the Acquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. From that moment, the two were inseparable.
When I decided to move back to WA, I wasn’t sure how Ethan would react. But to my surprise and delight, he was all for it. His grandmother passed away shortly after the decision was made. It changed our plans but not our goal. When the time came for me to move back, he drove up with me. The last few months in CA were a blur of stress and emotions. On moving day, his dad ended up in the hospital and I told him to stay. I would move myself. He seemed apprehensive, but I just figured he didn’t want me driving by myself. We ultimately waited until the middle of the night to leave. He asked me over and over and over again, how long until we got to Multnomah Falls. I couldn’t figure out what his obsession was. Once we finally got there, he kept driving because he decided he would “wait until we were driving back to CA” (we would be taking the rental and Ethan back to CA with my mom). Annoyed, I went back to sleep. The day we left to CA, we woke up about 430 am. I had a dream that night that Ethan proposed to me at the Grotto in Portland, and when I looked up, we were at the Falls. I told Ethan about the dream and he forced a laugh. We began our drive, then we stopped at the Falls. We realized the Bridge to the Falls was closed because of the fires that happened over the fall and winter. Ethan suggested we take pictures anyways. We stood for a picture but when I turned around to see where he went, he was down on one knee. I tried to walk away because I got nervous but he pulled me back! He told me how much he loved me and that he couldn’t wait to start a life together and asked for my hand in marriage. I said Maybe :P What I loved most about his proposal is how well it reflects our relationship. I’m all about the journey, while Ethan is all about the destination. The Falls was our first adventure together when we had gone a few months prior. To me, it’s just another part of our journey, but to Ethan, it was both the beginning and the destination.
The couple hopes to travel together. Ang plans to return to school and Ethan wants to coach high school basketball.
