Alas, love in the time of COVID-19. Here's the run down: - We got married in Tyler's backyard on July 18th with only immediate family present. This ceremony was streamed for your home viewing and we were so fortunate to be married, even during a global pandemic. - We wanted to celebrate with you safely, and that time has finally come! Now, on our 3rd attempt, we are going to be able to gather! Join us June 18, 2022 for our Wedding pt. 2.
When you grow up in small-town Quincy, there never really is a beginning. We occupied the same classrooms, hallways, middle school (and high school) math team, quiz bowl team and cross country team. However, with Tyler's wonderful ability to stay under the social radar, he had not been subjected to much of Kelsey's charm. But not even those as skilled as Tyler could avoid Kelsey's social demands for long. Imagine yourself as an introverted underclassman in pre-calc. You are sitting at your desk before class, minding your own business, and that girl who answers all the questions suddenly thrusts an impressively swollen pinkie in your face. "Look at my pinkie!", she yells. And just like that, it was love. Not really. But Tyler did start sitting next to Kelsey in pre-calc. And then we sat next to each other in AP Gov. And Spanish. And AP Calc. And Advanced Chem (which Kelsey was not even a part of). Doing crosswords together instead of school work. Who are we kidding, we did all of the school work too. But we were also falling head over heels for each other. Months later, Tyler made the bold move of casually calling Kelsey his girlfriend (which he thought was assumed at that point). Kelsey did not assume. But that was a fitting start to our perfectly "Kelsey and Tyler" relationship. The dynamic dyad had begun.
Unfortunately for Tyler, Kelsey graduated and went off to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Despite only dating a few months, in usual Tyler fashion, it was assumed we would do long-distance. After a year of helping Kelsey with Calc II via FaceTime and editing her papers on GoogleDocs, Tyler figured it would be easier if he tutored in-person and joined Kelsey at CWRU. To Kelsey's dismay, Tyler did not become a biomedical engineering student and do crosswords with her during lectures. However, we did live the college life with a bit of our own Dynamic Dyad flair. We had our dinner in the dining hall and our dates in the library, became members of the Cleveland Zoo and season ticket holders at Playhouse Square (neither of which we cancelled upon leaving Cleveland, despite the 6-hour drive). Unsurprisingly, we graduated together in 2018 (Tyler easily in 3 years, Kelsey scraping by to get done in 4). Luckily, the dynamic dyad found a pair of jobs in Washington, D.C. Our day-to-day looks a lot different as we have jumped into adulthood. We moved into a 583-square-foot apartment and became the terrific triad joining forces with a one-toothed, wheezy senior cat. Tyler spends his days at his government job and spends his nights at his full-time job grading Kelsey's papers and doing the dishes. On a Wednesday night in December, Tyler decided to spruce up the evening and propose to Kelsey after our flu shots. Kelsey in her PJs and Tyler in his business casual, we committed to this crazy, wonderful life together.
Tyler and Kelsey got married in Tyler’s backyard on July 18th, 2020 surrounded by their immediate family and grandparents. They jetted off to the Alaskan wilderness for a socially distanced (an Alaskan island with no electricity is about as distanced as you can get) and returned to their Washington DC apartment to work from home together. Yet again in their relationship, they gambled on a new move and hoped to end up in the same place (college and first job worked out…they had high hopes to continue their luck). They celebrated when both Kelsey and Tyler received acceptance to school at Michigan State University. Kelsey committed to attend MSU College of Human Medicine and Tyler committed to pursue his Economics PhD at MSU. In Spring 2021, they purchased their first home in a crazy housing market and landed in a wonderful split level in Eaton Rapids, MI on over an acre of land! The time between their June 2021 move and June 2022 wedding will be a blur of studying, house projects, and enjoying married life.
